Say you have people coming over for a late afternoon BBQ on a Sat. Once people start drinking and munching when the 'real' food comes along there is not much interest. We are trying to cut back but the urge to have enough is still with us! There are always left overs with chix and steak/meats; I am starting to think doggie bags for everyone!
If you really want to keep some control over appetites, put your munchies and appetizers out early and don't refill or leave them around for at least an hour before you will serve dinner. Maybe you are offering too heavy or too much befores.
Doggy bags, how generous of you. Who wouldn't love you as a hostess.
After living in Southern California 26 years and moving back to Iowa 6 years ago I am amazed to find that Iowans have much heartier appetites. Where I would have leftovers in CA ~ never do in IA
Well, we did pretty good this time. Leftover dip and a little chicken - they scarfed everything else! They would have eaten more steak kabobs if we had them. Two wheels of brie - plank roasted with red pepper tapenade on top- GONE. It was a fun time and lots of people left with tomato plants!
Also strange as it sounds depends on the time you start to eat. People expect to eat more at dinner than say lunch. I never did a wedding that was after 5:00 that people didn't eat like pigs..*G* I wonder if they knew we talked about them in the kitchen *LOL*
according to my husband''''''''''''how come when we have a cook out we have shrimp, scalops, flat iron steak.and the fixings? and at pauls house we have hot dogs and burnt hamburgers...well dear thats why we have so many friends...happy cooking''''
Ooooo, that's a good one. Hit home here because we are the people cooking 'fancy' food and my BIL's name is Paul and that's what we have at his house!!! LOL 'cept they are relatives as well as friends!
