Since essential oils are expensive, I don't usually add them to the cleaning solution. I have a large collection of oils so I make batches of different room sprays in glass spritzer bottles. After cleaning a room, I give it a few light spritzes with an appropriate spray. My husband smokes in the den and it can get pretty funky. This deodorizing blend is very effective for those odors, as well as mustiness in damp, closed spaces:
In a 2 oz glass spritzer bottle, mix:
10 drops Bergamot
20 drops Lemon Myrtle
OPTIONAL: 10 drops Perfumer's Alcohol (NOT rubbing alcohol). This helps disperse the oil in water.
Fill bottle with distilled water. Shake thoroughly before each use.
I saw a comparison cleaning products sketch on like Good Morning America recently and they determined that homemade, generic or name brand window cleaners all do the same job. =) Nice to know!
Hi Andidandi! I'm new to this site and really love this forum.
A couple of years ago, I got a book that I just love, called "Clean House, Clean Planet" by Karen Logan, and I use several of the cleaning recipes in it. Her simplest is just baking soda with essential oil mixed into it. It scrubs very well, rinses great, and smells fabulous!
Genuine essential oils are expensive. But if you mix up your own cleaners, it is soooo much cheaper than buying them at the store. Also you get a lovely "smug" feeling as you pass that aisle in the store, haha.
