I'm interested in growing this plant (Cuphea micropetala) in Houston, TX for hummingbirds. I already have the "David Varity" variety & like it a lot. I've heard, however, that Cuphea micropetala is much more disirable for hummers. I'm interested in its growing details, attractiveness to you, & how you generally feel about this plant.
It's a large plant--makes a good short hedge or large subshrub here. Very hardy, but freezes to ground level every winter. Roots very easy from cuttings. Hummers like it OK--definitely not the biggest hummer magnet; but in the fall, they like everything.
