Hello to everyone,

I just started knitting a few months ago, and I really love it. So far, I've made several scarves, a baby blanket, and a throw-sized afghan. I've seen patterns online, and in books, for socks, but I couldn't seem to work up the courage to branch out...until now!

When I heard about a sock knitting class, to be given at our local craft store, I just had to reserve a space. I knew that if it were up to me, I'd probably never attemp it, so I saw this as a wonderful way move on in my knitting. Our first of three classes was yesterday, and I had so much fun. We knitted the cuff and heel flap to the first sock, and were told that if we wanted, we could use some waiste yarn to mark that place, and do same for the other sock. Well, of course, I had to see if I could do it on my own, so I knitted the cuff and heel flap for the second sock last night.

Now, I think I'm addicted to sock knitting, because I'm thinking of raiding my yarn stash, so I can start some more. I don't know what I'm supposed to do with a bunch of cuff and heel flaps, but, I sure want to make some. lol Actually, I'm thinking of seeing if I can follow the pattern myself, and make a whole sock. I have plenty of single skeins, and it would give me a chance to try out the double pointed needles I made recently, using wooden dowels. I'm curious to see if they work.

Anyway, that was my weekend. I've had a great one.

Hi Jennifer,
Good for you for signing up for that class! It sounds like a good one. You'll have to post pictures when you get them finished. I made some simple socks a while back using the magic loop method and really enjoyed it. I keep meaning to find some more elaborate patterns and start another pair, but I get side-tracked. It's a great idea to work on both socks at the same time so they are both progressing similarly. It's hard to start the second one after you've finished the first. I'm currently knitting a t-shirt with some simple lace detailing around the bottom. Maybe after I finish this, I'll start another pair of socks. I've wanted to do the Falling Leaves pattern from knitty.com.

I'm glad you had such a nice weekend! Knitting is such a satisfying hobby.

That falling leaves pattern is beautiful. Let me know how it goes.

Yes, knitting is such great fun. I'm the kind of person who needs to keep my hands busy when I'm watching TV. I've crocheted since I was a teenager, and I was taught to embroider as a child, but knitting is still new to me. I'm enjoying it very much.

It is such fun. Even more than I had imagined. I'm supposed to be knitting a baby blanket for my niece, but I seem to be so sock obcessed right now. I guess, after I finish my first pair, I'm going to have to make myself put them aside to do the blanket. Then I can make all the socks I want. lol

Knitting socks is addictive !! My best friend and I have been going crazy with them since January. One of the ladies in my Knitting Guild is such a whizbang at it. She told us about a book where you can customize them to your foot/ankle,calf sizes and shapes. We now both have the book and can't wait to get started.
The socks are so comfortable. So soft. There are a gazillion colors and yarns out there-I want them all !!!

Jdee, I made a pair of mittens a long time ago. If I can make them you can too. I still haven't tried socks yet.
