We're buying a 60s home in a 55+ community that has some hideous carpet in the Florida room. We'd like to remove it & get back to the cement to refinish it nicely (if it's in good shape). If it's not nice we'll put some kind of tile in probably. Has anyone got some good tips for removing the carpet & the glue stuff that's under it?
Lots of muscles (fueled by cold beer/soda where appropriate), gloves and, if available, a shingle shovel (used to strip asphalt shingles off of the roof, but should work well to pull up carpet from cement with less strain on your back).
Good luck. Glued down anything is never an easy job to remove. :-)
Well now BackyardZoo that really is a TERRIFIC idea!
Don't know how I could go around getting someone for the job tho but I'll think about it.
I can just see me now standing outside their dorm room. A 52 yo woman, chewing gum, my water bottle sling over my shoulder, wearing my big ol' comfy shorts with my cell phone strap hangin' on the pocket, my favorite conservation tee-shirt on, flowered flip-flops (toe rings & purple polish on), a smidgen of white sun block on my nose, a big sun hat & sunglasses holding up a large sign...
LOL that's really quite funny but I'll definitely entertain other possibilities. It's a good one & I like the idea of the carpet being used by someone else rather than tossing it. I'm really big on recycling!
I'd suggest asking at the admissions/administrative office. Colleges usually have a bulletin board set up somewhere to advertise rides home with an extra seat available & the like. Just put up a notice.
