I am trying to find some product to apply to a used brick seating area which is in full sun.
I like the way it looks when it's "wet"...but when it dries out, it's dull dull dull...
Is there any kind of product or sealer I can apply to it to give it that wet look?
It's a very small round area about 8 feet in diameter.
You might try digging around on the HGTV website--there was an episode of "Designed to Sell" where they applied something like that to a concrete walk to give it that shiny look. They didn't mention the name of the product on the show and I don't know if it would work on brick or not but they might have more info about it on the website.
I found something once on a reduced rack that was for natural stone that this. It doesn't make it look QUITE as 'wet' as real water, but it lasts much longer ;-)
I think it was billed as a 'Color-enhancing' finish. I've also seen 'high-gloss' sealant. Combined, they might do the trick (but I'd test on a scrap brick first)
I use this and it looks great...Behr Wet-Look Sealer the high gloss one..It's for interior/ exterior...You can get it at Lowes for about $15.00 a gallon...
i'm so glad i just happened to find this thread! i have the same problem. my brick walkway looks beautiful when i'm watering my garden, but once it dries out, it loses its appeal. i find myself watering the bricks now too! :o)) thanks for all the info, i'm going to try some this afternoon!
Ashley...I followed Demstratt's advice and got the Behr product. I'm still waiting for a warm day and the time to do it ...
I actually was talking to a guy at HD who had used it and he said it's great !!!!
Well, good luck on finding the right product. I have tried practically every brand on the market, and most look great when first applied and for about 2 months. But if it is a "high traffic" area, the wet look begins to fade after that. I have an exposed aggragate front porch and walk, and love that wet look. I used another new product today, in fact. Purchased at Lowes, it is called Eagle. I will try to bookmark this thread and report back on it's durability. I even paid $80.00 a gallon last year for a commercial sealer that was guaranteed to last. Well, still dickering with the company for my money back. It lasted not as long as some other brands.
The only thing that I had against the Eagle brand, was it came in gallon cans, with no handle or bale!! Can you imagine that!
One year, I even put on Polyurethane, several coats, and it didn't last either. Not to mention all the work to remove the products that fail.
DH wants to just cover it in indoor/outdoor carpet, but that will be over MY DEAD BODY.
Mines been down 2 years and still looks great..!!Even on my city easement where all the salt trucks throw salt and the snowplows dump the snow...It's still doing it's job and looks as good as the day I did it...
defoecat...I've seen that Eagle product but didn't want to pay the price for such a small area. Maybe the amount of UV rays it gets affects how long it lasts...
I DON'T BLAME YOU ABOUT over my dead body AND THE INDOOR OUTDOOR CARPET...!!!! better to have faded brick !!!
I will keep you posted on the Eagle product, sure hope it doesn't disappoint me like all the others.
Demstatt, I have used the Behr products for deck, but had never noticed the product you mentioned. Thanks, I hope I don't need the info, but have back up in case this Eagle doesn't work.
