A great second hand store treasure several weeks ago has been sitting
in a box waiting for just the right idea to strike.

And today it did just that.

Our front porch rails are nothing fancy, so I am free
to paint them, drill them, do away with them if I want
to, hubby doesn't mind. One day we'll have a nicer
porch, but until then, this will work just fine. :-)

I found well more than a dozen different glass votive
cups, the kind with the little stump on the bottom designed
to fit into those metal or iron candle holders from Home
Interior years ago. Using a paddle bit, I drilled a hole in the
wooden porch railing, and inserted the candle cup with the
stump into the hole. Add a tea light candle and wa-la...
porch lights!

They were put on the bottom rail because I often sit on or
lean on the top rail while hubby is on the swing on the opposite
side of the porch.

Ten cents each, can't beat that! I just so happened to find
an equal share of red, yellow and green votive cups in varied
patterns. Quite cute, and even nicer looking as it gets dark.

Easier to see in the enlarged view of the photo.

Wow, they look great, especially against the lattice work!

Thanks!

They are actually much prettier in person, of course, but the
grainy photo and the dusky lighting doesn't compliment much.

I also have another section with another idea to show you all, but it is
too dark out there and the lighting just wouldn't work. I hope to post it tomorrow.

WUVIE, can you come to my house and be creative? Those are just wonderful. They are so "enchanting" to look at. I would love to sit on your porch any night.

WUVIE, I just got an above ground pool delivered and will be installed in about 2 weeks, and am going to "do" my deck with your idea. Now I never thought that I would have a pool, but since it will be off the deck, can't wait to start sprucing it up. Plan on putting some solar lights there as well. I will share picks when finished.

Awesome, Karen! If it wasn't so hard to drill into the glass you could even use a string of lights instead of candles.

Oh great! I just gave two boxes of those old candle holders away. Now I wish I'd kept them. That looks great lit up and friendly.

Hi Stinker,

I find these at the Goodwill stores all the time for ten and twenty five cents.
Always on the lookout at yard sales, too.
