| I like the convenience of online bill pay but my bank wants 6.00 a month to handle it for me...lowermybills.com does it free but doesn't handle all vendors (not sure the bank does either) so I still have to pay my dsl and gas bills via mail. lowermybills also often "loses" connection to the vendors sites so I have to spend a good deal of time making sure the bills don't disappear or rekeying my password repeatedly. I was wondering if there is any other free bill pay that is more stable and easier to use.
I don't mind tweaking the site because I am a computer professional but don't think it should be necessary - they just have some squirrely software which unfortunately is rather common. It appears to me that I am losing one of the major bill pay advantages (saving time) by messing with this every month. |

| I agree Rox,
Could you possibly check around your area for a bank that doesn't charge for Online bill pay. One bank I was with didn't charge if you had at least three accounts with them.. Another didn't charge if you had direct deposit into your account. I love it but I wouldn't do it if there was a fee! |

| Rox, I have used checkfree.com for about 5 or more years. I have never had a problem with it. They don't have all companies, but they have many. It costs nothing.
Our utility companies (in our little town) have gone to online pay, you might check with them and see if they have it. Ours is no charge.

| I know bankofamerica has free online bill pay, but not as fast I like it to be. Paying their own credit cards two days, but majority of the utility bills needs seven business days(check sending). Your fund will not be draft untill the payees cash the check. It made me a lot of over draft fees by doing that.
It's ok to use any of the online billpay service but do not use their automatic payment system, again seven days of check sending.
I switched to Tinker Federal Credit Union, one of our local credit union which have many direct utility bill pay. If not they will still wire the money to them which is very fast. No mater the payee receive the check or not, your fund still draft the next night or tell you when it will be draft.
Check with your local credit unions from your yellow pages. A lot of them should have free online bill pay. |

| well I pay most of my bills through http://www.checkfree.com I go in and schedule payments when I know they are due and they pay them automatically on those days. It keeps me from having overdraft and late fees, etc.

| I pay all mine with my credit union bill pay feature. No charge, overdraft protection, etc. Never had a problem in over 2 year. Even pay my mortgage note and cellphone bill. Most systems continue to add vendors daily.
It's such a convenience. I rarely write a check for anything anymore. |

| I use mycheckfree.com and like it. They send you a reminder to tell you when a bill is due. I only pay bills two days a month and do them all those two days during paycheck cycles. |

| chele, have you had any notices lately about them not doing some of your bills anymore? I only have two left that they will pay. Not sure why... I wrote and asked, but they didn't reply.

| I have not received any notices from them but only use them for two bills. I'm about half tempted to switch to my banks online bill payment. The only thing that has held me back, is entering the info for every single account. LOL Like I have time! It would probably be faster in the end instead of entering the info and passwords for EACH site as I do now. |

| Chele, My bank has online bill pay, but it costs $3.00 per month, per bill. I'm not interested! :) I'll buy myself a calendar and remind myself before I pay that. :) Kathy |

| Roxroe, I know they don't have Wells Fargo bank east of New Mexico, but I kept my account after leaving AZ. Their on-line payment system is pretty good (like Bank of America, it helps if you schedule ahead of time) and there's no charge if you keep a minimum balance.
So, what I'm saying is you might want to shop banks/ credit onions. 8* )

| Credit onions? :) I'm on my first cup of coffee and had to giggle at that. LOL
Wow Kathy! $3 per month per bill?? I'll have to look and see but I think it's free through my bank when you have accounts there. We have all of our accounts (including the kids accounts and our mortgage on one house) at one bank so we have some special stuff we get free but I thought their bill pay was completely free. Now I'll have to look! It would be sort of nice to have it all in one place. Hubby gets paid twice a month, then about a week after his regular pay he gets his overtime and shift differential check so I pay all the bills out of the regular pay checks when those two checks come in. It would be extremely nice if I could set up two lists of bills to pay! chuckle |

| Well, PC might have meant that some banks/lenders stink! :) We do everything with our bank as well, try to keep everything local/in our community and I wanted to do our bill pay through my bank and that's what they told me...I almost lost it.
Most of mine are online at their own website now anyhow. I pay my mortgage and such through transfer on my online banking. I took Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University last year (DH and I both did) and it was the best thing we ever did. I have a form I fill out each month and keep in a folder and it tells me what's due and when and I keep a record of that and check off after it's paid. I do a month at a time and spread everything out over the month based on weekly records/monthly records. It is a tremendous help to me.
I can tell you that Dave Ramsey has been unbelievably positive for us. If we hadn't been practicing his ideas all year we would have been in a terrible world of hurt when we had our fire in November. It wasn't easy, but easier because of the practices we had been following.

| You know, I had never heard of Dave Ramsey and reading through the budgeting forum, doing research of my own the last week or so, that name is popping up everywhere! I may have to go see what it's all about. :)
I did take the time to let the internet lead me where it may. In the past week or so, I've read everything I stumbled upon about credit counseling, credit cards, credit (FICO) ratings, bankruptcy, budgeting, interest rates, etc. It's been an interesting trip! I started a post on the ORV forum talking about budgets and such. I didn't even know this forum was here! |

| Chele, the course is about $95 and you and your DH can do it together. It is Christian based and often is held at churches. go to http://www.daveramsey.com and you can find a class being taught near you. We had a lot of fun in ours and they also have classes for youth. DH and I thought about teaching the youth of our church because they need to hear it more than we adults sometimes :) |

| I think this is a great forum, I never stopped here before. We just got out of our credit card debt due to the passing of a family member and they left us a small amount of money. The first thing we knew was we were never going to have any retirement budget unless we get rid of this debt. Now we need to focus on that, we are in our 40`s and don`t have crap to retire on. |

| When our church did the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University classes, they returned half your fees if you completed the class. That is how much they were encouraging people in our congregation to take the classes!
