I recently purchased a large water softener and purifier from Rain Soft for my house but it has not been installed yet. The filter for the kitchen is through reverse osmosis but the rest of the house is your typical water softner which uses salts. I've been told that these types can be bad for plants because of the salts. When I went to the manufacturer site it stated that the sodium content in a glass of water is less than that of a slice of bread. I've also been told that you can use potassium in place of the salts. Can anyone tell me whether a typical water softener using salts would harm my palms and if so is using potassium a good substitute and especially if there is anyone out there who is currently using a Similar water softener for there house and plants
