Went and bought grey grout yesterday for Le Soleil. Now, I'm not sure about the color.
Now, I'm thinking yellow would be good. I have some yellow colorant.
What do you think?
Yellow for the rays and grey for the face?
Total gray?
Help!

You shouldn't ask me kimmy, You know I love black on almost everything...

except for when I went over the edge (for me ) and did the pink and blue candle shelters last winter ;-)

but since you
asked, a strong yellow for the face and a dark gray for the rest would be pretty.

Then later you can tell us how you like using that ' Weegie Board 'stuff or whatever it is called lol

btw,

looking at the bazillion pieces you had to cut for this reminded me of a thread elsewhere about using your leps to cut in a baggie.

One gal cuts while riding in the car on a boring trip but she does caution " Don't Mosaic and Drive " hahahaha

Scoot - you're a hoot! " Don't Mosaic and Drive "

Am not grouting it today...gonna mull over the different suggestions...

I like this piece so much that I am in a quandary...

That is SUCH a great piece...as someone who just admires...knows nothing...I would just want you to make sure the grey on the face did not take away from the eyes...they look so nice...would grey look the same color...again...just a great piece.

I am no expert but it seems like the yellow would detract from or compete with the gold in the face where the gray would make it stand out more. The gray would sort of seem like leading and the glass would remain the focus.

Whichever you choose I know it will be beautifu with all the detail in the piece.

Thanks all.

I think it is going to be gray... the Yellow would definitely distract.
The other issue is the edge...still mulling over the edge.

Kimmy, That is just an awesome piece of work. The way in which you laid the individual pieces of glass is really breathtaking! What did you use as a base?

mangomo,
I used Wedi - it is blue styrofoam with a mesh overlay coated with
fiberglass. Supposedly the BEST for outdoor use.

and Thanks!

I like the Wedi for alot of reasons...it is LIGHT! It is Weatherproof.

The only thing I don't like is covering the styro edge...maybe I'll come up with a way to "treat" it that I like and isn't a PIB (pain in the butt.)

Hi Kimmy, Sorry but one more question. I am intrigued by this Wedi weegie wonder whatever...where can I get it?
Is there an on-line site I can research it? I tried, but everything comes up in Italian...I think !!!! I'm crossed-eyed from trying to read it ! Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks Kimmy ! I think I am going to order some. I have used concrete backerboard from Home Depot but it is so heavy, rough and hard to cut. What do you use to cut the wedi and it is hard to do? Do the edges come out rough after it is cut? I appreciate the info !

I use a jigsaw with a ceramic blade...I use the same thing on backerboard.

Wedi edges are pretty neat. There is a mesh overlay on the styrofoam- I just use a lighter and burn the mesh tips.

Again - the only tricky thing is the treatment of the styro edge.

Do you know about Mosaic Artists Org on Yahoo?

Lots of really good info on the forum and in their database.
