Oh that is lovely! I have read that in Houston, where we cannot grow the other peony, we can grow tree peonys- but I have not experimented yet. Does it take 3 yrs to reach bloom?
When I received 'Kamatanishiki' in 2004 it was a year old (maybe two) and was about 8" tall at most. In 2005 the foliage grew but the plant did not bloom. In 2006 the plant grew substantially, the foliage quadrupled and it produced two extraordinary blooms. They are huge and beautiful. The color is difficult to describe. It appears pink until you get closer, then you can see the lavender in it. I'm looking forward to next year!
