After seeing so much talent on this forum I finally decided to try my hand on a simple project that I have been putting off for awhile now. So ta-da, here is my first birdbath :). I made the mold myself out of 2 dollar store bowls and a concrete/gravel mix. I inserted stained glass pieces and glass stones when the concrete was still "wet". After it cured I applied sealer on it to help retain the water...
I may have to try to make one myself. Our birds have been complaining cause there is no water source here for them. I was thinking about getting a plant stand and putting a wok or some other pan or bowl on top and that way I would have a lightweight bird bath. But I'll do one like yours first and see.
Hi Kimmy - yes, I am definately going to do more! :) Although they take time it is well worth it in the end...
Hi ya Scoot, and you are so right about the addiction part...lol.
For fast and cheap birdbaths I use the bottoms of plant container pots that collect water - they are good and shallow. I have some that are terra cotta and a few comercial cement ones and the birds love them. The second birdbath I posted is made out of a terra cotta bottom. The only problem with the terra cotta ones is that they are not very durable and if they fall chances are they will break. For that one I am going to paint the outside bottom and put it in a spot where DH can't touch it with the riding mower - hopefully with the all that grout and paint it will survive and live a good long life...lol.
