I bought a new tool from Lee Valley Tools last month and have decided it is the most wonderful thing for eliminating anything with taproots. I have never had so much fun getting weeds before! Here is a link to the tool:
It is a water-powered weeder. You attach it to your hose and it just goes through my intensely compacted, heavy clay soil like a hot knife in butter. I got out all my dandelions, full taproot, no problem. I found it was best to do 3 or 4 holes around them with the tool, and then they come out pretty easily. I never got them out by the whole taproot before. The other nice thing is that I don't have "digging" damage to my lawn. The water holes just closed right up. It was a blast to use this thing, and even better because it actually works. I even tried it on a thistle and some other non-taproot weeds in dry areas and they came out, no problem.
Very handy tool - my new favorite! Does anyone else have one of these?
