Our new home is supposed to have a water softener loop, please excuse me but I have no idea what this is, where to find it, or how it should be maintained! Is there anyone out there who can help explain this to me?
A water softener loop is simply the incoming cold water supply exiting the wall, probably around 48" from the floor and 8" out from the wall that loops back into the wall, and continues on to supply the house. It is probably in the garage, but can also be in a closet by itself, or a shared closet with a water heater or other appurtenance. It is built in with the house (not all houses) and is meant for a future water softener installation. You don't really have to maintain it other than to check it for leaks periodically, and insulate it if it is in the garage.
