Our local FM is very hard to be accepted to get a booth. From what I am hearing, it takes about 10 years. They did let a few new vendors in this year, but only because they are very different from what was there. We want to sell cut flowers but since there is already a cut flower vendor, chances are slim that we would be able to get in anytime soon. The flower vendor always sells out hours before the market is over, so there is room for another we think. (of course we think that) We were thinking that we could do different types of bouquets, similar to a french style. We were also considering making wreath bases out of sweet annie (that we would grow, of course), dried material for the wreaths; we were even thinking of throwing together "kits", a wreath base and a selection of dried flowers in a bag or separate pieces that they could choose if they didn't want the ready to go "kit". The wreath kits and dried material would be available in the fall. This year we planted a lot of flower seeds to trial to see what would grow well on our property. Its fairly windy and we're concerned about whether the wind will affect flowers in a field as opposed to being next to the house where they are somewhat protected from the wind.
We're also considering growing some herbs and edible flowers since no one is really selling cut herbs. Has anyone tried any of the above ideas or have any suggestions? These boards are great; I've learned so much from them. I want to be a flower farmer. I say that at least once a day!
