We'd like to put an above ground pool in the same area of the yard where the feed line runs from the septic tank up to the box for the leach field lines. The feed line is PVC pipe. Will this cause any problems? We're not worried about future repair as we could drain and get to the pipe if necessary. Thanks for any help!
I'd sure like to know about this as well. I called the pool company, and they don't seem to even know what a septic system/drain field is. Common sense tells me it's not a good idea, but our back yard is almost entirely consumed by the drain field's feed lines, so our choices for pool placement will be really limited if we can't place it above them.
My hunch is that the weight of the water will be spread out over a large enough area that it wouldn't affect your pvc pipe. There are different strengths of pvc - thickness of the walls of the pipe. Most pvc pipe used in drain fields is relatively light weight. Another factor would be how deep the drain pipe is buried. If it is at least two feet deep then even the light pipe should be fine. If you were still concerned about it, one solution would be to dig up the pipe under where the pool would be and replace it with a sturdier pipe. You would only have to do the length of the pool which is what - 20 feet or so? Not too big of a job for a little peace of mind.
