Anyone put in a new patio or other concrete, and use the surface stamps that are available (either purchased, or rented)? We'd like to try stamping the surface as we put in our concrete patio, but want to know what pitfalls to avoid. How big an area can we do at a time, without having trouble with it setting up too fast? If we're adding color, is it better to mix the color throughout the concrete, or just do a surface treatment? The color throughout seems like it would be better, but the cost of the colorants seem high for a large patio, and someone said it can be hard to get the color consistent throughout if you're mixing/adding concrete as you go. Anyone have any experience with putting in new concrete that is dyed and stamped?
If you are doing the concrete yourself, look for solomon's dry pigments. It is easy and cheap.
I would pour the concrete, 'dry shake' the pigment on, float it in, then press whatever patterns you have. I don't know about the surface stamps, it's probably simple. I have some pictures of concrete in the flooring forum
