Should I install Pergo 4 in 1 T moulding at the exterior entrance door in the kitchen or should I install an aluminum piece to match the doorway. My concern is moisture and the questionable (cardboard) construction of the T-moulding in a high use doorway exposed to the elements.

If it connects to the exterior I would do the aluminum--I think the Pergo molding is only appropriate if it's a transition within the house itself but it's definitely not designed to stand up to conditions that it would see outdoors.

Aluminum. You won't have to worry about it warping and having to repalce it in a short amount of time. I agree with ecrane in that it should be used within the house itself.

Thanks. Now I just have to find a 2 inch threshold strip somewhere to meet up with the one under the door.

I didn't think the laminated cardboard strip Pergo makes was such a good idea.

The person who installed our laminate floors placed the molding right at the threshold of the kitchen door that leads to the garage and one at the sliding glass door. We have had our floors for about 4 years and this is not where we are having problems. We have 6 people living in this house and 3 dogs and multiple cats and live in a high humidity area.We used Armstrong flooring though.

My wife saw the aluminum strip and said, "Perfect!" I used silicone caulk underneath at the outer edge and I think it will do just fine. It's pouring today so I'll wait and see. We have 7 dogs and 10 cats so there's a lot of traffic over that transition. This floor looks great but if there's a next time, a floating floor is out. Too much to worry about.
