| we are building a wine cellar, and have a nice collection of wines. how about a forum to discuss and recommend different wines and brag about our collections.
for instance, we tried a new (to us)merlot called 'running with scissors' from california. it was under $15 and great. we are going to serve it as our house red from now on. |

| I think that is a good suggestion, not that I'm interested in such a forum. Everyone posts suggestions for new forums in the Dave's Garden forum and then if there is enough interest, Dave makes them available, and they usually take off. That would be the best place to ask for this. |

| I'd love to have a wine cellar, not that we could have a cellar in SE TX's but... Never tried Running with Scissors, Have you tasted Casa Silva from Chile? Also a good house red. |

| a wine forum would be interesting. We moved from Napa Ca. about 3 years ago and I miss the the wine! In Az. we can't even get wine shipped to us from the wineries. I miss the tastings and availability and variety. So, yes...wine forum is a good idea. |

| There is a winery at Bowie. Couple hours from Tucson. Just drive down the main/only street in Bowie. It will be on your left near the fire station. It's not on the main road but it's very easy to see. I get peaches and walnuts from them in the summer. There is also a new winery on Ft Grant Road near Willcox. I only know it's there as I have never stopped. Woman that manages it is very nice! |

| okay, I'll start...tonite I'm having chilean sea bass with an Acacia Pinot Noir...not sure of the veggie though. Acacia is in the Carnearos region of Napa Valley. This is a beautiful wine. Fruity, light tannin with just a touch of pepper. Can be a bit $ but it was on sale last week. It can be paired with just about anything and is very nice just on its own. I'm a Pinot nut! LOL What is everyone else havingfor dinner? |

| Sliced grilled chicken, oven roasted cherry tomatoes, fingerling potatoes, grilled asparagus, romaine lettuce w/olive oil from the tomatoes, dijon mustard vinaigrette. Served with Villa Maria Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand.
That was last night's dinner. Tonight is leftovers from the week buffet. LOL Pretty sure Pinot Noir goes with leftovers!

| OK, so apparently this IS the wine forum! Let the games begin...
Have you tried the Bohemian Highway Merlot yet? Under $10 a bottle, I bought it as a joke, but it turned out to be not so bad afterall...
My friend and I go after the "different" labels, and the rule is that they must be under $15 a bottle.
3 Blind Moose Merlot was acceptable, but steer away from Mad Housewife...

| Oh I like those "off" labels too. I am starting a list from this site. Okay, my selection of the week will be FAT BASTARD chardonnay of cabernet. I think about 12$ a bottle, not bad and lots of giggles on the name. |

| Yes, the FB chardonnay is quite nice! I have not yet had the cab...
AOL had the top 5 wines under $5.99 a while back...all were actually quite nice.
My husband gave me a gift certificate for Christmas to make my own wine...the one I picked was an aquired taste, but still fairly enjoyable (guess it had to be since you make a case of it!)
I've been trying more and more of the Australian wines, most have been decent. South African wines are making their way into more and more places, and have proven to be solid wines too.

| The Fat Bastard Shiraz isn't bad. The finish is weak and nothing stacked up to a Nugan Estate Parish 2003 but for a table wine it's not a waste of money at all. |

| The 2 BuckChuck for a while was quite nice...lately it's been a bit weaker, but still not bad for the price. The Little Penquin reds are solid for a lesser priced wines. Although not all Yellow Tail wines are superb, the merlot/cab mix is heavy, smooth, and nice for cold weather sipping. |

| I drank so much 2 buck chuck I got really tired of it. I still have one bottle laying around so will have to take it to a party or something to get rid of it!
I had some interesting Chardonnay the other day in Port Townsend WA in a restaurant called Cat's Phee, pronounced Cat's Pee. We tried to find it in one of their local wine shops but they didn't have it. I like the unusual labels and names too.
I want to put a wine fridge in our garage. It doesn't have to look nice, no fancy wood or anything. Do you store whites at the same temp as reds? Are the ones with 2 temp zones so you can bring wines to the right temps when you want to drink them?
Any brand suggestions?

| yes the better fridges have two and sometimes 3 temps for the wines...I have a websites someplace that has some nice ones I'll have to look for it *LOL* if you could see my bookmarks list you'd understand why that won't be a quick job. If you have a World Market near you they are having a sale (at least ours is) on wine right now trying to clear out and we picked up some great bargins. |

| mmmmmmmmmm thanks for that tip araness.
We were at a BIG LOTS last year and I saw a wine cooler that held 32 bottles of wine, chrome, front glass door, light...welll you get the picture, all the bells and whistles but here's the kicker. It was 149.99$! It had a dent in the side and had some scratches. Well, we brought it home, cleaned it up AND it has run sweetly since. Talk about being in the right place at the right time!
Let's start a wine exchange...?

| We have a small winery here in Orlando (Clermont) and it uses the muscadine grapes, which have a very distinct flavor. The wine certainly tastes very much like the grapes, and is wine you have to get accustomed to, but now I'm loving it! Lakeridge Winery is the name. Anyone else have small local vineyards/wineries around them with notable wine? |

| I think we should exchange bottles from the different wineries around the country! If you are tasting the ones from the muscadine grapes, you have to go into it with the understanding that they will NOT taste like other wines...They have a sweet red and sweet white here that make a fantastic base for sangria...be creative, be bold, be...be...be...oh stop being a coward! :D |

| Wineries seem to be popping up everywhere. I like some of the red table wine I tried from Alto Pass in Southern Illinois, although I can't remember the name of it now. Drat. Anyway, it was nice and dry. DH teases me and says I like wine so dry it makes you pucker. Not true...it just makes him pucker.
MerryMary, be careful if you ever go to one of the Lakeridge shindigs. They pour with a heavy hand; and if you're sitting under the trees listening to good jazz, you're likely to just sip, sip away and not realize how much you've sipped! :) |

| I read something awhile back that said there are wineries in all the states except 2. Of course I can't remember which 2. Arizona is producing some very nice wines. The cabs are the best. Arizona is also not a reciprical state so the prices are really jacked up. When we left Napa we went to all our favorite wineries and wanted to join their monthly shipping clubs but no go. Boo Hoo So consumers here get really gouged on some nice wines...in my opinion, of course. What about that wine swap? Sort of like RR only instead of seeds, wine. |

| wineaux...I agree with the nothing higher than $12 for an exchange...and local "area" wines that the rest of us would not normally get to taste would be fantastic!
Of course a once or twice a year "host" with a large summer deck would be a fantastic thing too. We all bring wine and cheese and tasted the night away! |

| Another odd one...I tried a 2003 Le Snoot Chardonnay ($9.99) and was pleasantly surprised. It had a very smooth nutty/pumpkiny aftertaste...quite enjoyable. Look for a pig dresses in an Opera dress on the red and black label. Even the cork is black! |

| This past months Food and Wine magazine had an interesting article/feature about Vineyards/Wineries that are in some way helping the enviroment. One uses the woodend wine boxes for owl and bat boxes, which eat a good many vineyard intruders...one donates and acre of untouchable land for every acre of land they use...It's been an interesting read. I'm going to go through the list and try each one. |
