Some good news this morning, now that I have finally moved. I talked to the Virginia Dept. of Agriculture who oversee selling home canned goods. It appears that after I go through the paperwork and they inspect my kitchen, I can sell my jams & jellies legally. They do not require a commercial kitchen, just at least a 2 bowl sink and a separate storage area (cabinet) for things like sugar and canning supplies. I have to give them recipes and label everything with ingredients as well as a business name and town, and keep my fat cat out of the kitchen when I'm canning.

I'm just finishing up about 48 pints of peach melba preserves. It's yummy! I also make lots of diabetic jams and jellies so that could be a good market.

It looks like I can do baked goods also, so now I need to find the best Farmer's Market around, see about getting in even if not until next spring. The town 25 miles south of me has some sophisticated residents and I may look at more exotic vegetables than what they sell at their market now. Most of the fare there is pretty ordinary... onions, squash, potatoes and a few berries. But they do have 2 organic grass-fed chicken & meat vendors and 2 bakers. No good crusty European style breads, though. Hmmm, maybe get a huge coffee urn and sell biscotti?

I have nearly 300 canterbury bells started for cut flowers next year, don't know what else I will try. Open to ALL suggestions!
