Well, I've got a little over two months to make a prairie stained glass lamp for my sweet BIL that's getting married to a wonderful girl in November. All rather sudden you see - no real reason other than why wait? And it's an e-harmony success story! We're all very happy!

Considering they're 43 and 36 and have melded two households together - they don't need the regular stuff newlyweds generally need - so DH and I thought they'd like to have a handmade lamp. Then MIL - sweet AudreyJo on this site - asked to go in on the costs of materials - so she's going to buy the base! I'm looking for patterns now and have found several I like - just have to make up my mind...hope they like it.

Send good creative thoughts my way!

I love prairie style lamps. I like that they never go out of style and will work in any home regardless of its style. We can help you make up your mind on a style if you post them on here.

Okay - you asked for it...Now - I'm not going to take on something elaborate - and these are lamps I found for sale - so I'll have to draw my pattern (no biggy). Here's idea number 1..kind of like the simplicity of this one...

Number 3...and this I'd probably adapt to a 4 sided lamp ...I really like this one - but a little uncomfortable with six sides...

And - number 5...

This one and Number 4 are my favorites - but a LOT of pieces which means a lot of work...and since time is a factor...not sure I want to take them on...

Let me know your thoughts!

Wow ! All are nice but I would buy number 4

Sure , a lot of pieces but at least they are easy cuts ;-)

I want to try making one of the the 3 sided column lamps , forgot what they are called ('-'?) ... duh!

Just finished shampooing the dining room carpet so it can dry over night without peeps tramping all over it.
Think I will hit the sack now.

I agree with scoot. Number 4 is the best looking one. I like them all but that one just caught my eye.

Scoot, I have that same saying tacked up on the fridge. It's one of my favorites.

You could take out the horizontal lines in the middle and it would still look good. Be less pieces that way. Or you could leave it. It should still look good either way. As for sleep, well... maybe some. lol.

And - the lodge where they got married had a plethora of stained glass - I estimated close to $10,000 worth. And here's the one that was in the ceiling of the entry...want to "reproduce" - with my own twists of course...

LOL! Maybe - but before I do I'm ordering some glass sample sets to choose glass from. I spent about $350 + trying to get the right glass cause I don't have a local supplier...I like what I ended up with though!

BB, I love that style lamp . Hope to be able to try one soon.

How does that new mottled glass behave while cutting ?

Your color choices are wonderful too.

btw ,
Have you done night lights? Wondering what the angle should be for the side wings ?

Scooter,

The mottled glass is a bit tricky to cut. I tend to cut large and grind a lot...seemed to work best.

I've made one night light - and I have a couple of books of patterns for them. I'll look at them and post back what I find.

Thanks for the compliments...I was happy with the way it turned out...

BB ,

Almost all my glass and stuff is firmly packed and waiting for the big move .

I gotta at least make something smallish before I go Nutz .

I think I miss the aroma of toxic lead fumes heeeeeeeeeeeeeee

;-))

maybe this BOP it looks very simple and fast. With the disarry of packing containers around here I need to do quick finish projects to prevent someone breaking it.

BB...I love your lamp I started one of the 3 sides lamps for my deck a few years ago. I want to have 9 on the deck. I have one side of one lamp almost done. Only 8 more lamps to go. At this rate I will be about 102 before I get them all finished. LOL Better get busy or change my plans. LOL

Scooter... When is your move to Tennessee?

Betty
