one of a series I did that got the worse damage. some of them had the watercolors and design going from the paper to the mat. All the mats were too damaged to keep. Click the image for an enlarged view.

| I base coat it with an acrylic and then use oil based paints with a liquid medium that extends the oils. Because of that when you put certain colors on they can change colors depending on what is behind them unless you have put a sealer on it first. The company I was taught from and that sells the oils is very old but doesn't advertise much (both of them are really old now) so it is hard to find the paints unless I order them by mail. Because of the way the oils are formulated you do NOT have to ever put a sealer on them and they are water resistant. And if you take a soft cloth and buff the piece it will shine without a spray also. It is cool stuff to use.
I have found that using a badger hair brush in different sizes makes the best results.
The front of that vase has detail in it but I also put detail in places that had none. The back of the vase was completly smooth but I wanted it to look and have the depth that the front had so I had to use the oils to get that effect.
This piece took about 8 hours of brush work to finish it. |

| thanks... it did turn out to be my pride and joy... *giggle
this,, my koala's , my pencil still life and an oil my brother has have always been my favorite of anything I have done. Or at least anything that is still around. Moving, Military and water damage have destroyed a bunch of my earlier work. The pencil still life is the oldest piece I have that I have done. It was done around 1975 in school. |

| Great work Nada . . . and very interesting about the ceramic oils . . . I'd never heard of that before. Of course . . . I don't git ta towen much (spoken in my best Tx'ccent) ;)
I have heck with the glare thing also, I usually take the glass out for photos, when that's an option. But even then . . . getting a quality photo of art is never easy. I took over 100 photos of Jamar along the way . . . and only posted about 15 of them. It's a lot more trouble to get them right than most people think.
You did good though :) They are all really nice. Especially the Rino, but I think the frog is my favorite . . . something about that one just makes me grin :D
Thanks for share'n ;)

| you are welcome. I never did get the color right for my oil. It is actually purples and pinks, NOT blues. *giggle I'm just not that good with the camera I guess.
Yea that frog is cute. never did decide if I was going to do something different on the outside or frame it as is... with the amount of time that has passed... think I will have to frame as is. |

| Your first oil is wonderful! I can feel the cold crisp air! and I think it goes without saying that the ceramic piece is outstanding. I hope you've done more than just that one. If so, we want to see more!!! it's fun to walk thru all the different media with you. I enjoyed them all.

| LOOK AT ALL THIS TALENT THAT FIRST picture is beautiful, it looks so cold I could feel my breath being taken away, How wonderful and loose the painting is. The colors are great. But the overall effect is outstanding. |

| Thanks so much Scarlet, I'm proud of it even if I can see all the flaws... It was my first ever oil painting but as you can see from the other stuff I have been into some kind of art/craft since I was about 3-4 years old. I remember the first ribbon I won at a craft show. I was a brownie and won a browie ribbon.. I still have it... It is made of contruction paper and ribbon *giggle |
