It has been suggested that the plant in your image is possibly Stachytarpheta mutabilis based on the fuzzy leaves and stems, large leaves and heigh (7-8'). Let us know if you'd like the image moved.
Growin, actually it belongs to urticifolia. This is one of the hybrids being sold out there(which may well be a cross between mutabilis and urticifolia) I think most of the images in that PF files are wrong. I made a mistake when adding it to the PF and should have brought to the admins. attention, but forgot (sorry). This one only gets to be about 5 to 5 1/2' tall.
Jamaicensis is the native one, (which I have) and it's different. It grows to a maximum of 2 to 2-1.2' tall and it's more open, also the flowers spikes are much smaller too. It's not at all invasive as urticifolia which is the one commonly sold everywhere.
There seems to be a big confusion with the species of this plant in the nursery trade. I have consulted with the experts at our Extension and they have confirmed that the ones sold as jamaicensis are actually urticifolia.
Thanks for bringing it to my attention and yes I would like to have it moved to urticifolia as I don't see another entry that may fit it or remove it all together. But I'm sure it's not mutabilis. I have Coral/Pink Porterweed and it's a huge shrub that gets to be over 9 to 10' tall with large leaves and pinkish coral flower spikes. The photo I added by mistake is of a smaller plant with smaller leaves and flowers (which are purplish). This may be a cultivar, but I don't have the name.
jnana, thanks for reviewing the image and plant. I've moved it to S. urticifolia. When you find out which cultivar it is, add the plant and we can move your image.
