What kind of wood is it constructed from ?
Softwood or Hardwood ?
If it is softwood there was a good information page on the California Redwood Association website.
Though it was written specifically for redwood you can apply this information to just about most soft woods.
Hardwood and or some of the more exotic woods that are being used can be addressed differently in how you clean them and seal them.
Also, the type of hardware used to fasten the deck together is sometimes a consideration if you have to deep clean and use a light acid based cleaner.
