| Can you get any closer detail? I have some tatted doilies around, but don't know how to do it myself. DH's grandmother used to do it.

| It is netted. Netting is based on the same technique that fishermen use to mend fishnets. I tried googling - but couldn't find a definitive website. Here are some places you might look for more information:

| I've never heard of this type of craft. Beautiful results!
China has just banned all plastic bags being distributed to shoppers. I imagine this type of craft will become well known here in the States if our supermarkets etc are not allowed to distribute the plastic bags we've all come to rely on! Not a bad idea all round, truth to tell! |

| I agree with Jeannie, I had a table runner made like that and it was bobbin lace. I doubt that many people do that today, what a treasure. |

| I still do bobbin lace! Though I would not attempt a table cloth :) I have made bookmarks, small doilies, and even an edging for a little dress I made. |

| Jeannie, where did you learn? It's such a beautiful art, I've never even seen a pattern book. |

| There are lace guilds all over the country (and all over the world). Look up "International Old Lacers"( aka IOLI); I believe there are quite a few guilds in California.
I saw bobbin lacing being demonstrated at a county fair / arts festival in Pennsylvania (when I lived there), talked to the ladies and ended up joining their guild.
There are plenty of books available, but usually not found in your local Barnes & Noble.
There is a museum/store in Berkeley California called Lacis ( http://www.lacis.com ). Another place I've gotten lots of my supplies from is a place in New York: http://www.vansciverbobbinlace.com
This is me doing some bobbin lace at a retreat:

| Jeannie, that looks so cool - It's more like a weaving technique. Post some of your work, would love to see it.
