Yes, especially if you're not venting exhaust to the outside. You probably need two people, at least for part of it. I suppose you might be able to hang a new one on the old hardware, if it's the same bracket. If not, you have to drill some holes for the new hardware. A lot of the new ones have a standard 3 prong plug, and I wired an outlet box in the over head cabinet to plug it in. The other half of the outlet powers some under cabinet 'puck' lights. I'd say it was slightly easier than installing a big ceiling fan properly. One thing that slowed me down was figuring out which part of the instructions and templates did not apply to my installation, because it doesn't exhaust outside.
