How do I get that nasty smell out of the wood? (musty*moldy*old smell)
It's going in a small bathroom and the less bad smells the better!!! LOL!!

Try baking soda. Put a box of it in one of the drawers and it should absorb the smell.

mama, I tried lots and lots of things to get rid of the odor in this beautiful dresser I bought. I got it at an outdoor flea market, so the odor wasn't noticeable until it went inside my house. I painted on linseed oil inside each drawer (bottom and sides) and outside of each drawer on the underneath and sides, I tried baking soda, I used charcoal, I wadded up newspaper and sprinkled them with baking soda...nothing worked. My daughter had no dresser for a quite awhile. To this day, 12 years later, it still smells. I asked a lady who owns an antique store. Her advice? Get rid of it. She said nothing will take it away. Nope, not going to get rid of it. Clothes just smell for awhile when they come out the drawers. I also have cedar balls and thin cedar pieces in each drawer. If you pull one of them out, they still smell like cedar and the drawers still stink.

isnt that just crazy terry!!

ok I asked a neighbor, old mexican feller and he said what they did back in the day when something smelled funky (he didnt use that work, I did LOL) they'd slice a bag of apples thin and fill the item with them. take out the apple slices when their all dried up looking. weeks later he said..
I think I'll give it a try, you never know what might work!
shoot I'll even try orange slices!

I don't know that it would work after you put the linseed oil on, but if it was an unoiled piece I would try bleach. Bleach will kill mildew and other germs. Or what about a formaldihyde type of pet stain rug cleaner?

Have you tired spraying the drawers with Febreeze and setting them out in the sun for several days (when it's dry and don't let them get wet from dew or anything)? Maybe that might work. I know Febreeze is for fabric but wood is an organic material too.

Good luck.

Have your tried Odorzout? [HYPERLINK@www.88stink.com] This product has taken care of some pretty stinky problems for me.

Hello! I know I am a "newbe" but I have had this problem and wanted to add my 2 cents worth! I have had this problem with the smell in wooden things before here is what I did to remove the odor.. Go to the pet store and get some skunk odor remover... and after painting the wood with a weak bleach (10 to 2)solution.. DO NOT SOAK YOUR WOOD.. Then paint the skunk odor remover on your wood.. place it in the sun if you can.. if not place in a VERY WARM ROOM.. if you need to repeat the skunk odor remover application use a brush so you can get in all of the tiny areas (that is important) and this should work for you..
GOOD LUCK!
