I have a problem with storing things. Most everything gets shoved into one of our many "junk drawers" or end up on top of the fridge. Anyone have any ideas on how to sort and store "stuff"? I bought a labeler because I had read if you put labels on shelfs and drawers that there is no excuse for not knowing where something goes. But I certainly cant make one drawer for "little thingy that goes to the dishwasher" LOL. Whats a girl to do?

Some of the "junk drawer" items belong together, so if you can separate and organize the items into different categories, it might help with the next step.
I have a file folder in a huge file cabnet for instructions and warranties. But if it is for lawn, garden, or garage items, one of the small drawers in my tool chest has all of those. Even garden hose guarantees - I write the date with a "sharpie" so it wont fade and disappear.
Small item bins are available at the big-box stores, but even cheaper and see-through are Glad and ZipLoc containers - love them. Buy a few for the house - when they get discolored - out to the garage. Much easier to find 4# nails then searching through all the small paper bags. Now I buy new ones for the garage, too.
I have a few of the larger size containers, and store some small items in ZipLoc sandwich bags in those.

We have 2 junk drawers that are mostly junk. I am going to rent a movie and sit down and start tossing. . . one of these days. My sister tells me I cannot make a quick decision when it comes to tossing.

Hi. I'm new here. Just read this thread and thought I'd put my two cents in. We have a seed bin in our kitchen. It has 48 drawers in it. I have no idea where we'd put our stuff if we didn't have it. Yes it does have a lot of drawers. No you won't lose stuff in it. It's a lot prettier than plastic organizers (in fact it's one of only two pieces of "real" furniture in our home). Each drawer has a specific purpose. If you put your stuff in there slowly you won't forget where it is. If you want to know more about it just let me know.

Becky~
could you send a picture of your seed bin? Thanks, K~

I need desk organization ideas...mine is actually a side table with drawers so it's not as deep as a desk and not much room on top. I do have a shelf I can put on the right side.

Yeah, we need to organize our junk drawers too, they are getting out of hand! It sounds like you're having trouble organizing. I do think that's the hardest part of keeping clutter down. What goes with what. Sometimes it helps to go through the drawers just looking to see what could go together, before you start moving stuff.
We have one drawer that's mostly for batteries and candles, one for recipies, one for tape, glue, wire, etc., and a top drawer for "stuff we use a lot". Try to find some kind of "theme" for each drawer, that's half the battle.
We also keep warrenty stuff in a drawer, if it's expensive enough to keep the warrenty, then it goes in that drawer. Every so often I go through and clear out old ones for things that we don't have anymore.
Desk drawers -- we have one for stamps and address labels, old cards, new cards (like for birthdays), paperclips and staples, pens pencils scissors rulers and such, and so on.
But I'm not going to tell you about our junk drawers that really are full of unsorted junk! : ) It's a huge secret!

These are all really good ideas. Im interested in the picture of the seed bin too. All you have to do is when you post something look above the "Preview" button and youll see "Image" and "Browse". Hit browse and find where the pic is on the computer, then upload it. Thats it.
