I have a woodburning fireplace with a gas starter--anyone have a rough idea how much it would cost to install gas logs (rough ballpark is fine...is it hundreds? thousands? of dollars). I've seen gas log sets for sale so I know the range of prices for those, I'm more interested in knowing the cost of the installation. I was thinking it wouldn't be too much since the gas is already there for the gas starter, but sometimes things that seem like they should be cheap aren't!
I have gas logs in my home and would not take a brass monkey for them. If you already have the gas supply there it should not be that expensive. Be sure to close off your chimney so you will not lose you heat. But you probably already know that. Here where I live I am very tempted to put in a wood burning outside furnance because of the simple fact there is tons and tons of wood that is going to waste right here in my front yard. I just hate the way the American people are so wasteful. If you had a wood burning furnance around here you could gather enough wood from a new house construction to last a year. Off my soap box now.
Out here we have problems with the pollution from wood burning fireplaces because of all the particulates that they put in the air. That's why I want to convert to gas--I would love to use my fireplace, but in its current wood burning state I don't feel good about using it.
