I hope I do not bore anyone with this... after looking at all this BEAUTIFUL art work...I am not too sure if I should post...lol
I do a little bit of everything, not that I am good at all of it.
OK, I do ceramics. I pour slip into plaster molds, kiln fire, and sometimes paint items.
I also create one of a kind stuff from some of my castings by manupilating pieces.
I do some wood work. I just started a little Hypertufa. I have painted on rocks, wood, black velevt, and a few other materials.
I am working on a huge Elephant topiary...
I love to try new ideas, and Daves is a Fantastic place to learn and get new ideas.
Thanks for taking the time to look and read about **WHAT I DO**

When I first started doing ceramics, I guess I was in the mind frame...that there were borders...and you should not step outside those borders. Once I overcame that fear... I actually started having a blast playing in the mud again..lol
Cooler weather makes it so much better to work in. I have no heat or air in the shop, but hubby did a great job of insulating it for me.

It is 16º outside my studio window. I want to crawl into bed and come out in the spring. I hate cold weather. I want to move back where it never goes below 70º. When we lived in Thailand it never went below 90º in Bangkok and I was perfectly happy with that. In Venezuela we could go to the mountains and need to wear a sweater in the winter. That is my kind of weather.

I just had to look back at the top of this thread to see what the subject was.

LOL...It was an old wooden mantle they had to tear out of a house that had caught on fire. The mantle was not hurt. He asked me if I wanted it...I said no... throw it away, so (like he does with everything) he stored it out back...lol
One day I was looking for SOMETHING, that I am sure I did not ever find...but I ran across this mantle. I drug it in the house, when he got home, he nailed it to the wall where I decided I wanted to put it. Then I started dragging in rocks...lol.

I washed them in the sink, and had tables set up everywhere with sheets and newspapers laid them . Laid my washed rocks on the tables and waited for them to dry. Then started fitting them together like a huge puzzle.

Some of the rock did not dry as fast as i wanted them to...so I put them on the burners of the stove on low heat.

WARNING!!!! Never do this. 3 blew up...lol like to have scared me to death. I thought the kitchen had exploded!! LOLSmoke and dust was everywhere!!
It took me about 4 days to complete it. I did not like the way it looked down near the floor...so I built my own hearth out of 3/4" plywood, and 4x4's, then added the rocks to it, so it is movable. In order to get the heater to look right, we had to pull the hearth out a tad bit. And set the heater in.
My Hubby thought I had lost my mind, until day 3...they he started calling his hunting buddies it to check it out...lol

I call it the **WINCHESTER HOUSE**. My hubby keeps adding rooms on. He is a builder by trade. I also think well...KNOW...he is addicted to building things!! LOL
When his oldest sister found out I painted the living-dinning room and kitchen black...I thought she was going to have a COW. She made it to our house in a record 13 mins...normally a 25 min. drive at a good clip.
She just about broke the door down getting in the house. She is ok with it now...but she was so worried at first. She is the one who invented Better Homes & Gardens...lol Everything in her house is white or off white...it is almost sickening. When we have to go down there, I feel like I am going to the DR. Office. My stomache gets queesy!! LOL
I use to be afraid to do anything in the house. My last marriage...well my last husband would not let me touch the house, as far as decorating. He always told me I was a no talent_________.
It was not a good time believe me. So when I met my hubby I am married to now...it was like walking into a whole new world!!! He supports me 10000 percant. He is always telling me...Hey, if you mess it up, or are not happy with it...just cover it up and start again!! NEVER BE AFRAID to let your imagination out.
He is AWESOME!!!!
So I guess you might have a point...our house it a little different than most peoples homes!! LOL

The new neighbors are great. They are a very nice couple and are expecting their first child in March, a boy.

We are up high, to the right in the photo is a park that has a fairly steep hill going down to a creek. If you are up on your Minneapolis Native American history, geography or poetry it is Minnehaha Creek.

Glad you got good neighbors. We got one to the north AND one to the south. The North bought and we really like her. She has 3 preeen boys, but well behaved! The south rent, but know friends of mine and are OK too.

Love it! Someone gets to say they live by Minnehaha. Reminded me immediatly of the indian cartoon that was on when I was little.

aprilwillis, thank you we do to.

The Minnehaha was probably the same one. There is a legend about Hiawatha, Minnehaha and Nokomis. Minnehaha creek runs by our house, and we live by two lakes, Hiawatha and Nokomis. Longfellow wrote a poem about them so the Longfellow neighborhood is close by as well.

Oh the floating around watching the stars brings back some lovely memories.

I've been talking pool for a while, but we have no good place for one. Then it has to be fenced to keep kids out. Especially now that we have grandchildren. All I wanted was one big enough to float in, on an air mattress. I could roll off and get wet and cooled off and them back up to float. Heaven!

I lived in Minneapolis for a few months, YEARS ago. I hated being in a tiny apartment, and in the dirty nasty city. Then we moved to Maple Plains for a few months...I LOVE it. We use to go driving on the weekends. I could not keep up with the names of all the little lakes, but each and everyone of them was fantastic!!! Your place is truly AWESOME!!!!

Minneapolis is a very nice city to live in and I live right in the "dirty nasty city", although it isn't a dirty nasty city everywhere. I truly am a city person so I was so glad we could find such a nice neighborhood to move into. We moved here in 1999 when finding a house anywhere was difficult and even harder here where we wanted to buy. My sister and family live in the next block and we wanted to be close to them. I grew up here, but hadn't lived here for over 20 years when we moved back.

How about a big pond? Your very own floating pond it wouldn't even have to be very deep and with your skill you could make it look fantastic. Could you float in the one you already have?

DH is so lucky we don't have enough room to build one in our yard I have this great idea rolling around in my head. Have you ever been to Tivoli in Copenhagen? I could make my own little Tivoli. I was trying to find a link with a nice little cozy part of the garden/amusement park. I guess no one else thinks that is what is nice about the place. But here is a site that has Denmark photos, if you scroll down just a bit you will see a photo of it at night. It is very large and there are many little areas to sit and enjoy the garden and lights. On the last night of our first trip to Europe we were their and I was trying to figure out a way to must stay and never leave. It was one of the places that seems like a fairy land. That was 27 years ago I am sure it has change way to much by now. We did go back and live in Europe for 10 years, but not in Denmark.

LOL...I went to Destin ,Fl about 13 years ago...lol A trip to Birmingham is an adventure to me, and it is only 45 miles from our house...LOL I have Never been out of the country. Shoot... I would love to just see some of the places here in the USA, and I guess I do, thanks to the internet...lol When I was MUCH younger I traveled a bit...but out grew it I guess.

Our poor pond stays GREEN most of the year, and I do get in it once a year to clean it out...lol Our Rottie gets in it a few times a day, so does our Rat terrier...they really like it.

We lived in a BAD part of Minn. I came home from work one night and noticed the guy that lived downstairs from us, laying 1/2 in & 1/2 out of his doorway. He was a junkie. I went back out my door to check on him, and he had turned Blue around his mouth...so I called the police...he was dead. That still bothers me after all these years. If I would have called the police right away...would he have lived? Was he already dead? So many questions, and alot of guilt.
The last straw was when I was leaving work one night...I had to catch a bus to get home...a guy came up to me and pulled a knife and held it to my throat, reached into my pocket and took my last $2.00 until payday...I had to walk home. Talk about scared to death!! That was it, I called my mom and begged her to send me a bus ticket. She did, I left and went back 4 years later to Maple Plains when my in laws were...but it is nearly impossible to live with family, so I left and never went back...moved to Alabama and have been here since.

They were my "learn how to use the camera" subjects this past Spring. I have literally thousands of lizard photos. Those with the details of the skin are some of my favorites. That photo was taken with DSC-H1 Sony. It has a 12 X Optical Zoom. I really enjoy it. Mainly because the viewfinder is 2.5". I also have a DSC-W5 Sony that doesn't have quite the zoom, but takes awesome photos of moving objects.

I do have my own kiln...as a matter of fact I have 2 . A huge Olympic and a large Olympic. I help my hubby pay the bills by selling on ebay and to a few of the locals here. It's not alot but it helps. Having the kilns is also great around Christmas time. With the price of Everything going sky high...I make ALOT of my Christmas gifts for family members and friends. Sometimes I think it stinks...but they all love the junk I make.
I remember one Christmas my mom bought me about 10 pieces of ceramic stuff at the dollar store...lol I know it is the thought that counts...but I would have prefered a stuffed bear...a loaf of bread...a plant...anything but CERAMICS!!! LOL

Love the LIZARD!!!! We have more this year than I can remember ever having in the past. That is an awesome pix of it!!!
I attached the wire...well gutter guard with screws. The holes are small enough that the screw did not go thru. I started attaching it with roofing nails...but got tired of hammering, and grabbed the screw gun...I know(LAZZZYYYY...lol) I was very suprised, once I got the hang of it, how easy the gutter guard was to work with. My husband also bought me 2 rolls of plastic gutter guard. I was afraid it would not hold its form as well as the aluminum for such a Big Monster...lol But I do plan to do some other creations if this guy turns out ok.
