I don't think this is Encephalartos horridus... looks more like lehmanii or something similar. Leaves are totally wrong... never even seen a hybrid with simple leaflets like this one
You sure know more than I do which is nothing as far as these go. It appears this was taken at the Berkeley Botanical Gardens on 10/13/05 so I have no clue now about the circumstances when I labeled them. Berkeley Bot. could have had it labeled incorrectly or much more likely I may have deleted a few bad pics and then the wrong name tag picture went next to these pictures. For when I just went back to that date I did find this sign with no corresponding picture. So it is probably lehmanii. I also vaguely recall we had this same conversation a year or 2 ago.
