I have a no-wax vinyl floor in my kitchen, dining area that was put down maybe 15 years ago. It is in very good shape except for some black stains that were caused by a cheap brand of black garbage bags. I have tried mineral spirits, ect and they don't come off. I have heard of painting vinyl flooring, but wonder how well it would really work. I was thinking of a black/brown/grey ragged look with maybe grout lines done in black. Any ideas on the best paint and sealer to put on top when finished or do you think it would be better to just go with a new floor.
Hi linclonitess, I googled around a little and it is done...they used latex enamel paint, and sealed the floor after with urethane. The floor needs touching up every year or so. It might be worth a try
I'm think it might be fun to try. I think I still have an extra piece of the vinyl in the basement I could do a sample on. May be awhile before I find the time to try it, but I'll post the results. Thanks.
Unless you were dying to paint the floors anyway, I would try the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser on your black stains--it really can work magic! Won't work on everything, but it will take off stuff that nothing else will so I would try it first.
