Hi all. We are still recovering from a major power outage due to heavy, wet snow that pulled power lines down. The majority of downed lines were due to the fact that the lines ran through trees. The snow piled up on the still fully leafed trees. Limbs came down along with the lines.

The lines for the most part were ripped from houses at the source of the outside meters. My meter is in the basement so when the power co. re-connected the line they had to run it to the meter. (their responsibility) Well in so doing that they ran it from the pole to the house, under the deck & through an old unused dryer vent. I know that this was an emergency procedure, but they didn't run the line to the top of the house, then down a conduit pipe, then inside. This thing is a real mess. I don't know where to start. With an electrician? The power co. duct-taped the line to the pipe instead of running it through the pipe. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Gloria

Unless you want to pay for the repairs, I would start with the power company--I would assume that once the emergency situation is over that it would be their responsibility to come back and do things right and you just need to remind them of that. Otherwise, you could get an electrician to come fix things but you'll likely get stuck paying for that on your own, I doubt the electric company would reimburse you if you do that without trying to fix things through them first.
