| My first love has always been horses. Since I can remember, I've been obsessed. I no loger ride but still love them as subjects to paint. I've been going through a flower and seascape phase lately because that is what pays the bills, but today I got the old itch again. Here is the result: Click the image for an enlarged view.

| Be still my beating heart!! LOL. I LOVE HORSES!!!!!!!! I can't live without horses around me!! I don't get to ride much since none of my neighbors ride theirs but I do get to a friend's house about once or twice a year to ride. Great painting. Would fit right in my room with all the horse stuff I have. |

| Very nice, I love the colors. I have never had my own horse, but enjoy riding and have spent vacations at ranches where I could ride. Pleas post some of your other paintings. |

| Well now I have to eat my words about horses not paying the bills. The little gray horse sold this weekend. I never get emotional when I sell a painting but I have to admit this one did make me a little sad - probably due to the emotional connection I have to horses. |

| LOL!! Isn't that the truth. I try to stock up when I find things on sale. Cheap Joe's is great for that. There is nothing more frustrating than running out of a color in the middle of a painting and having to pay top dollar locally. |

| Thanks Jenks! I can't remember the exact size of that one. It wasn't that big. At this time of year, I concentrate on smaller paintings because people tend to buy smaller paintings for gifts at Christmas time. If you are interested in a series, they can be done in any size/color. That painting was done in acrylic so it was done in about an hour.

| hm...Dmail me. I'd like something that free (large strokes with a lot of paint/texture) -and if you are going to start from scratch- my specific horses would be great! |

| Jenks,
I just realized that I had responded to your Chihuahua question in the pet forum. Too funny. I hope the little one is doing well. One of mine always manages to try to "help" with my painting. Recently, I was disturbed to find little blue paw prints all over my house. I was able to follow them from the porch, through the living room, into the bedroom, up the doggie stairs I have next to the bed, across my pillows, to where I found her, snuggled under the covers, still with blue paws. This all occurred in the short time that I had been distracted by a phone call. Moral of the story: They may be little, but they can be big on trouble! : )
Aspengirl,
Thanks! Before I could talk, I was obsessed with horses. Because I didn't get my first horse until I was about 10, I think I spent every waking moment reading about them, drawing them, ect. I would spend hours in my back yard pretending I was on a horse cantering around. My parents have a painting I did when I was really young of a horse with a rainbow mane floating on a cloud - I know..how sappy! I cringe when I see it today. I loved your pics on GD's thread.
You guys really have me missing my horses!

| Amy,
How nice you were able to have a horse. So many little girls draw and paint horses and never get to ride one. I use to teach art and there were so many horse drawings when they had a day to draw what they wanted to.
I have a good friend that sculpts and draws horses obsessively and she is afraid of horses. She refuses to ride them. I keep wondering why. She has tried and just is too afraid. |

| Zenpotter,
How truly strange that she is afraid of horses. I'm scared to death of snakes and don't think I'd want to paint or sculpt them ; )

| I remember being scared. It's not hard to imagine being entranced by their beauty at a distance and then intimidated by their size when it's go time. LOL I was jumped on by a horse when I was about 12. I did eventually get over it. But things do happen.
I think snakes are beautiful- but I wouldn't want to go handling the majority of them! Perhaps if I were properly trained or were more knowledgeable (as I was not when said horse reared on me and jumped over me), I'd be more comfortable handling a dangerous type of snake. That incident is what finally got me a ride from my mom to lessons I paid for with my allowance/wood cutting $/the rare babysitting...my parent's decided I'd get myself killed sneaking into pastures...
The Chi puppers is great! Spoiled rotten already. My DH is appalled to say the least. |

| Amy,
She will go to the state fair and spend a whole day drawing horses as long as they can't get near her. Her work is absolutely beautiful and she sells all that she makes. |

| I think my fear of snakes goes back to an accident I had on a horse when I was about 15. I was working with a young jumper when a snake slithered out in fron of him. He reared up so high he fell backward. Before I knew it we were both on the ground, him on top of me, me still partially in the saddle. When i went to stand up my knee went down to about my ankle. My tibia and fibula had been broken in half. I had to jump on one leg to get over to the fence to let him out of the arena, hoping that he would run back to the barn where so someone would come looking for me. The rest is kind of blurry because I was going in and out of shock. Funny thing - I got right back in the saddle as soon as I my leg was healed but won't go near a snake.
Jenks -Funny how parents will finally give in out of fear of safety of their child. My first horse was this crazy 1/2 morgan 1/2 demon pony. After years of pleading I finally broke my dad down enough so that he said he'd pay $35 a month - thinking this would never be enough, he was horrified to find that I found the devil pony for free, and two other girls who's parents would also go in on it. My father finally decided to get me my own (safer)pony after he had taken off with me on board and run into the street. If my parents hadn't been so terrified for my safety I probably would have kept riding that crazy old thing. |

| LOL! Funny, we bought an extremely inappropriate unbroken arabian for my daughter! Bwah! LOL So now she mostly rides my lazy mare! ;) She'd rather lay down on her and let her graze than really ride. Whatever keeps her busy and happy...I ride the kur-ay-zee ayrab ;) and she lolly-gags. |

| Hi Amy! I just got back to this thread and anytime you need a horsey fix just come on over to the equine forum or my house. You are soo lucky to have gotten a horse at 10. I got my very own horse at 33. I rode neighbors horses and I too spent many hours prentending I was riding or tracing horses. Now my 3 year old runs around pretending she is riding or that she is a horse so I had to go ahead and get her her own pony and she is completely obsessed just as I was. Paint some more and if you need inspiration I have several subjects. |
