When I restored the kitchen woodwork to match the woodwork in the rest of the house DH painted it. He did not prime first. Since then ugly yellow stuff has been showing through. So I repainted it. Same problem ocurred. I'm thinking about using BIN first, then painting again. If I BIN it, should I prime then paint? Or just skip the primer, & just paint? Should I TSP it first Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Gloria, prepping for a long winter.

Is it knots in the wood showing through? Skip the tsp, spot prime with the B.I.N., then paint. Hopefully, it will match.

I'd just do a good coat of BIN on all of it, then paint. Kilz won't do as good a job IMHO.

Actually, its not only where the knots are (though those are the most noticeable), but the entire wood . It has a yellow-ish cast to it. Being in the kitchen ( & I do a lot of cooking), maybe if I TSP it before I BIN it might do it. I would hate to go all the touble of BIN...painting, only to have it bleed through again. I'm really tired of doing this . Kitchen grease is a problem because I don't have a "hood". No vent. I'm going to paint the cabinets too. But thats another thread. I have to repeatdly clean the cabinets as it is. (wood...not anything to brag about)

If I cannot get this "yellow-ish" problem of the wood work fixed, I will have to re-think my project of painting the cabinets. ( I really want to do this) Any suggestions would be greatly appreciatied,

Thanks, Gloria

Just clean well of all grease however you choose, and do BIN. It's worth the effort.

BIN should do the job. A good scrubbing will help too. Latex paint right over the BIN.
Spot BIN the knots, then BIN the entire job. Knots bleed for ever and 2 coats of BIN is needed.
Let me know when you want to do the kitchen cabinets, I do them all the time for work.
