Hiya ..

About a month ago I bought new furniture for my Living Room.
As fate would have it :-( last evening the loveseat incurred it's first STAIN.
Someone inadvertently dropped a Honey Garlic chicken wing (cooked) onto the middle back cushion !!! I thought it would NOT be a problem as the furniture is supposedly treated. Well .. even though I got at the stain immediately .. with just warm water .. it's still there and it looks horrid !!!

I rec'd some spot/stain remover with the furniture .. but that hasn't worked either.

The furniture is sage (kinda taupe) and is made from 'Microfibre' it's like ultra suede.

Does anyone have any idea as to how I can delete the stain .. I do have some Rug Doctor furntiure cleaner for my carpet cleaner.

Am attaching a pic of the loveseat (without the stain). That's the OLD furniture on the lawn through the front window :-)

Thanks everso for any help ..

I think the treatment they put on furniture like that is usually a water-repellent sort of thing, so when you spill red wine, kool-aid, stuff like that it'll roll off instead of soaking in. But treatments like that aren't going to repel greasy stuff unfortunately! Whatever you decide to try, I would test the cleaning solution on a hidden part of the couch somewhere and then let it dry completely to see if it changes the color or anything. My thought would be that any product that has something soapy in it should work, so your Rug Doctor stuff may do the trick, or even plain dish soap in water might work in a pinch. I would probably try the Rug Doctor stuff first since you have it and it's designed for furniture, just make sure to test on that hidden area first before you use it somewhere visible.

Hiya ..

Thanks for your reply :-)

I did a Google search last evening and most of the 'finds' seemed to lean towards dish detergent and water.
1 tsp of dish soap and 1 cup of warm water. SOooooo .. I gathered my nerve .. and tried it .. it WORKED !!!
The stain is still very very faintly evident (to ME only it seems) but .. for the most part it is GONZO :-)

I'm happy .. Now Santa won't see what a bad BOY someone was :-)

Marilynne, I am glad you got it out. I always use Dawn dishsoap for anything greasy since it breaks up the grease.

A word of warning though. If the fabric was treated the cleaning will have removed the protection. That leaves the area open to soil and new stains may creep under the still treated area. To be safe you should retreat the area.

Hi

Thanks very much for that info .. I have noticed that the little area that was stained 'feels' a bit different than the rest of the loveseat.

AS an aside .. the COMPLETE stain did NOT completely come out :-( I would imagine what is left .. was the 'honey' residue from the chicken wing :-( I was going to try and 'delete' that .. however .. I kinda tned to think I would make it worse. If I run my hand over the fabric .. I can ALMOST make it go away as the ultra suede material does that. SO .. I am likely just going to buy a pillow to set in the middle.

Life is just so UNpredictable :-)

Again, thanks Zany

I've had luck with the "Oxy" products when all else failed or there was some trace left. I think it eats organics or something. I keep a spray bottle with Oxy-5 and Simple Green for quick clean ups and it seems to work better than more expensive products.

I wouldn't let anyone eat in my living room in the first place, much less bar-b-que.
