That sounds like a wonderful idea.
But in the meantime we have to settle for ????
Why doesn’t every one take a pic of their STUDIO & post it up,
So every one else can get a feeling of the environment in which we create.
When the sun comes up I’ll start this thing of.
Thanks for your words of encouragement cach357

| I have three places I paint. This first is a traditional studio. It is about 1/4 mile from my house, right downtown. There are about 6 artists that use it to paint, hold classes ect. The best thing about it is that it is my only indoor studio - very important in the 90 degree summer heat and humidity. Click the image for an enlarged view.

| Here is the second "studio". As you can see, it's not a studio but it is where I do a majority of my painting as I am a street artist. This is our(same 6 that use the loft) Kiosk in downtown Fairhope AL. It is open 7 days a week, strickly self manned by the artists in our group. As you can imagine, this is a very busy time of year for us. Click the image for an enlarged view.

Thats a nice group of studio pictures.
My hope now is every one else on this site will post pics of their studios.
The tins of paint in PIC #2.
What do you use them for ?
I do Splash painting [Like Jackson P.]
Thanks again for sharing your pics. |

November 30, 2006 08:34 AM Post #2955491
| Ginger, the tins belong to one of our artists. They are actually house paint in three colors: white brown and yellow. He actually uses them in place of acrylics. He had them mixed at Walmart. He primes all of his canvases in the yellow( cad yellow med). He started using them after he was commisioned to do something like 175 paintings for a hotel chain. He's used them ever since. Post some of your splash paintings I'd love to see them. Abstract is my true love!

| Funny - I was in the art supply store yesterday and they had a sale on Rowney oils. The reason I originally asked you, is that I'm not loving the oils that I'm using right now, the oil painters I know around here mix their own pigments, but I'm just not inclined to do it. My original question was geared toward what you mix your paints with...ie: something to speed in drying, or to thin ect. But I'm assuming you use them right out of the tube. If this is the case, how long is your drying time with this particular brand?

| I use GUM OIL.
Nothing else, I don’t like the uncertainty of Quick dryers.
It can/will crack your final work.
As for mixing your own?
Unless you really know what you are doing.
You are playing with a TIME BOMB.
What if after 20 years or so,
Your colours start cracking/fading?
The public who have bought your work,
Would be unimpressed.
I compare that to building a House for someons
With no foundations/footings.
Sooner or later the house will fall down.
