At long-long last the Mackintosh window is ready fo a turn-over. Soldered the face this morning, had a couple pieces of 3/8" AC plywood cut to size and slid one under the critter. Now if help ever arrives we can flip it over to solder the other side, putty, and solder the reinforcing bar across the middle. Sure will be nice to get that sucker installed after a couple years in the making. (did I mention I'm a slow worker ?)
Twenty some odd years ago, Connie helped me to make a beautiful round stained glass pegasus. It was my one and only piece. It took me 6 weekends of solid working on it to finish it. I was so proud of it.
We moved and one of the guys helping us move laid a stack of magazines on top of it. One of the wings had a crack in it after that. I know it was an accident, but I never did like that guy after that happened.
We moved yet again (several times) and when we moved into the current house, it was placed in the bathroom window. One day in the spring we had folks over to the house. At some point, the bathroom window was opened. Later that evening, I walked into the bathroom, there was my beautiful pegasus laying in a bajillion pieces on the floor. I cried like a baby as I swept and vacuumed it up. I swore then that I'd never do another stained glass, but I've always admired the hard work that others have put into their projects.
Please post photos when it's hung. I can just imagine the sunlight glowing through those beautiful pieces of glass.
It has been a journey watching this come to life. Now B R E A T H E !!
LOL
Janet ,
That is a sad thing for sure but hey there girl !!! pick yerself up and do another one .
The next Stained Glass Quarterly is going to have a georgous Egret panel pattern ( at least I think it is egrets or some kind of long legged water bird)
Just turned the window over yesterday to solder the other side. With the cold and some 6 to 8 inches of snow, and still snowing, it will be a few days before I get back to soldering. A "but first" has come up again consisting of the sunroom window where the piece will go being blocked by scaffolding needed to work on the ceiling;scaffolding being currently used to harbor tender plants for the winter and 'unavailable' for working on said ceiling; if scaffolding is moved so that work on the ceiling is possible, the door is blocked and unavailable to bring the glass piece into sunroom. Looks like I could use a class in organization. Most recent activities have been installation of smaller insulated skylights; half of the sunroom ceiling stripped,re-wired,insulated and re-sheeted;tube skylight installed in the kitchen;ledge removed from kitchen/sunroom wall, and area shingled. Realistically,I don't see the window being installed before January at the earliest, even though I'm chomping at the bit to get it off the bench and start a couple new projects (smaller of course). Here's the wall 'before'.
Wow!!! balvenie.
And I thought I was the only one with clutter.
Wrong.
What an absolutely wonderful working environment.
Love it, Love it, and Love it.
What more can I say?
