In the vein of my previous post " Trimwork - Stairwell & Newel Posts? " I would also like to pose the question to the seasoned remodelers out there:

Where does one put furniture when the carpet installers are putting in your carpeting. Seriously, this is not a joke question! LOL - WHERE am I to put my furniture when it's POURING (Seattle) rain in December.

We can't do these:

Move it to the garage - Can't - too full with carp and would interfere with path from car to door.
Move it to patio - Can't - raining and would get damp no matter how much tarp we wrapped around it.
Move it into a storage facility - Possible at $230 a month. Ouch. But cool, cuz we could move our carp into it?
Move it to another room while carpet installer installs? Then I will need 4 STRONG men who can do this for me.

You see? I don't know what to do. I've never been in this situation before. Help.

Installers have to deal with this all the time. Often it's in the contract wether the house is empty or not. They'll probably move stuff into another room or into the far side of a large room that's being carpeted... but you might have to pay more. I'd call them and ask

I have had carpet installed many times in my home and NEVER moved a stick of furniture myself...the installers move it to another area and move it back when they are done...they may charge for having to move the furniture, but it should not be substantial compared to what you will save over storing it!

The carpet people moved ours, even taking apart beds, etc. I've had it done a few times in a few homes and I just moved the small things like lamps, magazine racks, etc.

Oh yes! Definitely move anything breakable from any shelves at that end of the house! I lost a few pieces from shelves when they put up the vinyl siding and that taught me that if there's any banging going on to move anything fragile.

This is great news, and frankly, a relief! We are getting ready to visit flooring installers. Thank-you everyone for your replies.
