Hello! Quick question for anybody willing to help me out:
Just bought a new house and it has a wood stove. It is a Russo with a blower. I found that the electrical cord to the blower was fried so I replaced it. On the back of the wood stove is also a small black box with two wires going into it. Anyone know what it is?
I tried the blower when I replaced the cord, and it worked fine. As soon as I put wood in it and fired it up the blower tripped a breaker. I would imagine that the little black box is some sort of thermostat? I cut the cord to the little black box and tried the blower again, it works fine even when hot.
Anyone know where I can get a replacement little black box or know what is wrong with it? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!!
The little black box is a type of thermostat. The two wires probably go to the blower, correct? Most of these "black boxes" contain a switch that is heat sensitive. No reason to run the fan if there is no heat to blow. Once the fire gets the stove hot enough the switch is turned on. When the stove cools it turns the fan off. You may see a disk on the "black box". If it works, which I don't think it does from what you write, you can heat the disk with a lighter and it should snap loud enough for you to hear it. When it cools it should snap again. I think that it is shorted in some way. Probably the same way that your AC cord was fried. Just replacing the wires to the blower from the box is probably the solution.
