I haven't been at DG for awhile...here's why! Finally finished my guest room. What a bear! Stripped wallpaper in thumb size pieces, repaired drywall, primed and finally painted using a double "Woolie" roller. I love how it turned out. All the blood, sweat and tears were worth it in the end!

You did a great job and it looks very nice! When I first saw it I thought you might have used the double roller method. My son and daughter in law just painted their dining room in two colors of tan using that method which was new to them, and they are very happy with it. The shading hides small imperfections in their walls.

Thanks Donna! The master bedroom is the next project. I have the paint for it sitting here in the den with the receipt taped to it. It's dated September, 2005.

With all the gardening, and dreaming of gardening I just can't get in gear sometimes! If and when i get the master bedroom done, I'll post pics too. I'm planning on dark blue walls in some sort of paint technique...

I love the walls! What paint technique did you use and was it easy? I tried glaze and paint with rags ended up using plastic bags I worked myself hard and then did not llike it at all. I did something wrong.

Seed: Hope you aren't off doing that MB so you can reply!!! You MUST be a pro? It looks star worthy! Love it! Do tell...where did you buy the roller. What brand and color of paint? Is the guest bed wood? It is just jaw dropping. Thanks I'm drooling now. =) That's my kind of decorating, thanks for inspiration!

Awh..shucks!

I used a Woolie double roller...I purchased an entire kit with video etc at Home Depot. I bought the paint there also...believe it was Behr brand. The hardest part was getting the old wallpaper off and repairing the damage I did while trying to accomplish that!

I'm at work right now, but I can get 'cha the paint colors later if you think you want the same color effect.
I really do like it myself and it wasn't very hard. The bed looks like wood posts but the whole thing is actually metal which helped cut down the cost of doing the entire room. I bought the bed online through JC Penney for around $180.

Glad you like the room and hope it gives you some decorating ideas (and no, I'm not a pro, believe me...and I've always "disliked" painting and that's why I've always wallpapered).

Sandy,

WOW! I was thinking it might be metal! $180? OH MY GOSH you should have your own HGTV decorating show with those kind of finds!!!! I didn't even know you could buy a frame for that price. But am needing a twin in black metal now I know where to go!

And yes...I'd LOVE to know the colors. =)

That's the same bed! Only mine is a full size and what they're showing must be queen or king. I did buy a coordinating (wood) nitestand but since the room is small I didn't buy the dresser or chest. I'll get those paint colors as soon as I can...I'm not sure where I put the leftover paint!

Hehe...I forgot I was going to mention something about that "thing" holding the swag over the bed.

It's an outdoor garden hose holder I found at Wal Mart for $5. I'm frugal...have to use my imagination/creativity I do!

Thanks for the compliments! There was no glaze involved...this was done with a double roller and two different color paints. The entire process tooks months because of stripping off old wallpaper and repairing drywall. The actual painting probably only took a week in little spurts here and there. I made sure I finished an entire wall at a time though.

I just bought this same bed, in twin. Was disappointed---didn't read the small print---the posts weren't painted black to match but still were a nice dark wood paint on metal. But didn't match the other furniture I had for it. We took the headboard and footboard out to spray a true black and will stain the other furniture to match the 4 posts. Overall it looks awesome so far!!!

Ok, I'm in love. Ahhhh, feel like I'm being swept away...I just love your room. It really looks like something out of a magazine.

I was very interested when you said you used a "woolie". I'd never heard of that. I have a friend who has used a similar product and had a horrible, horrible time with. It actually pulled the paint off of her walls rather than putting paint on them! So I looked up your woolie roller and found a great deal. For anyone who is interested, check out the special on this page. The "kit" is being offered for $20, normally it's $50 and doesn't come with as much stuff. [HYPERLINK@www.woolie.com]

Now, are you sure this was easy to do? Really? I've sponge painted my dining room walls by hand. Once, years ago, before all this faux painting became hip and there were "easy" ways to do it. I "sponge" painted my entire dining room with 2 4x4 gauze pads. UGH! The humanity! I did it all at once so my paint mixture wouldn't dry (no glaze in those days), I think it took me about 18 hours...and it's a rather small room by today's standards. I said never again, but then had to re-do it because of leaky pipes...then I sponged it with a sponge, three sponge coats only took an afternoon to do. It's not exactly the same look, but 18 hours is too much for the best of us!

Hoping you're still watching this thread!

Thank you for the complimentery words Heathrjoy! Yes, I do love it too. I posted a pic elsewhere (on a decorating website) and several folks advised removing the picture from above the bed and adding more fabric to the "swag" for a heavier look. I thought about that from the beginning, but I didn't want to detract from the headboard/bedding, so I kept the fabric "swag" on the lighter side. I may still consider those others opinions, but for now, its staying the way it is!

I've never tried any painting techniques, and I think it was fairly easy to do using the woolie. I did one wall at a time (ie: one wall a day) since the hardest part of the actual painting process was trying to get even tones on each of the walls. I just kept playing with it until I liked the way it looked and left it at that. I think it took me about 2 hrs to do each wall just because I'm picky and would touch up areas if they weren't to my liking.

Glad you like it, and if you decide to give this woolie thing a try, be sure to post some pics for us to see!

Wow, that was a quick reply, thanks! I'm really considering getting one of the deluxe Woolie kits. I've looked online at reviews and haven't found where anyone had anything negative to say about the Woolie products. When I visited their website I read that they say because the Woolie is actually made from sheep's skin it contains lanolin, and that's why you should never use soap or chemicals to clean their products. They say the lanolin makes all the difference in the textures you'll get. Sounds worth a shot to me...even though I'm allergic to lanolin! HA! Maybe I'll be wearing gloves for this project.

I'm hoping, hoping, hoping to get the kit and do a room or two (or three or ten) by spring. If things go my way I'll be sharing pics too.

Thanks for the inspiration!

Ok, I ordered me a Woolie Deluxe Kit. Yepper, the DE-luxe one, lol! Now I have to figure out what colors to use, and what rooms I want to use it in. Hmmm, decisions, decisions. I think I'll start my own thread for suggestions.

Thanks again for sharing all of this with all of us. I can hardly wait to start painting!

great job. I've seen those paint brushes but didn't think they would work that well. I love the look.
I did a technique in my bedroom that I saw on HGTV (they have an online site with videos) and it came out something like yours did. But with 3 different shades of purple, and I'm sure yours was a bit easier than using paint, glaze, paint brushes and cheese cloth like I did.

WOW! Absolutely incredible! I'm glad I came across your beautiful room and found out about the woolie.

Your idea about the hose "crown" deserves applause.

And your helper is so cute.
