Any advice from anyone done this? ? We want another bedroom, so we're thinking to add out the back of existing master bedroom. I've read that split foyer style is one of the least conducive to remodeling. Have half of downstairs in storage/utility, but due to heating ducts I think there would be problems trying to finish it off. on top of the cricket and spiders making it highly unappealing to a kid. I've also read that going up thru the roof is extremely difficult/impossible to live thru.
Difficult, but not impossible. I'm an architect in Maine and live in a split foyer (or split entry as they call them up here) to which we have done extensive remodeling. Going thru the roof may be difficult if you have trusses, as I do. Can you walk out at the back? Our addition is on grade at the back of the building.
Our bottm level is about half underground. We got a detailed estimate for going out the back bedroom, taking some of that (master ) BR space for hall, then the new part having about 15 by 14 BRand walkin closet and bathroom. Basemnt underneath. A bargain at $80,000...oh, that includes new siding all around and new roof all, as those things are due anyway.
