When I went to the College Station Roundup in November I took Maude the Golfer with me, along with Penelope and a few other copper sculptures. One of the DG members asked if we could make a golfing man to go along with the golfing woman. I said, "Sure!" We'd never made a man, but geez, how hard could it be?

So, this week we began on the sculptures. I've shipped them off this morning. I asked the member if it was OK to post the photos here and she said that was fine.

So, without further ado, here is the golfing couple.

First we had to decide what beads, etc. we'd use. I had this necklace with 3 waybigo purple beads. I cut the ends and we had heads.

The holes in the beads were big enough to "thread" the hair through. We decided on curly hair for these folks.

Just like with Maude, we googled men golfers and found that the majority of them had on blousey britches that came below the knees.

Of course, we had to add some argyle socks. :-)

We put his club over his shoulder, as though he'd just swung.

The lady golfer was a lot of fun to make. We used the same bead for her head.

She has a golf ball in her hand as though she's just waiting on her turn to putt. One of her fingers fits into the handle of the club.

Connie and I both just loved his copper beanie. Most of the "googled golfing men" had those beanies on.

Thanks folks! We love them too. We have several things that we want to make before Christmas. Connie and I promised ourselves that we'd make us each a sculpture for Christmas. Also I want to make something for my hubby. We've been thinking of making a sculpture of Grace, our laborador duck hunter. But after finishing the man golfer, we discussed making hubby with a shotgun over his shoulder, carrying some ducks. We've also talked about making something for his van. Perhaps a hood ornament, since the van is rather plain and looks like a hundred other white Ford vans around here.

Many many years ago, when Connie was first learning how to weld, she made me the coolest man for my radio antenna on my truck. He was hanging on sideways to the antenna and it looked like he was flying along with me. He was about 5 inches "tall". Compared to what we are doing now, he was very crude, but still just cool as heck! Everyone that saw it commented on it. I loved seeing people's expressions as they pulled up beside me. Then one afternoon, I left work and not only was my little man gone, but my antenna was gone too! :-( Some jerk stole my whole antenna to get that man.

I'm really glad that we were able to get Nancy's sculptures done so quickly. Both Connie and I are running around like dervishes getting our houses "Mom" cleaned. She wrote us an email and announced that since it was going to be raining Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, that she'd just come on down on Sunday, instead of next Wednesday like she originally planned! YIKES!!!! I've been cleaning "her" room, since she will be staying at my house.

Hubby woke me up from a small nap this afternoon and asked if I wanted to go hunting with him. Bwahahahahahha I couldn't believe he'd ask me to go knowing that Mom was coming several days early! It's just as well that he's out of the house. This way I can clean all night long if I feel like it ... then I can be more relaxed when Mom actually gets here. We haven't seen her since the first part of the summer. We're excited that she's coming this way. She's not coming to see our houses. (We ALWAYS say that and STILL go crazy on the cleaning.) She'll get to see how pretty Connie's greenhouse is turning out to be. (there's a thread in the Greenhouse Forum with photos of it. Just look for maidentheshade as the author.) Hubby saw it this morning and though he's not one to elaborate too much about things, I know that he admired the work that Connie and I have put into it. He's a carpenter and make several worthwhile suggestions.

Heckfire, we may even get Mom in on the sculpture making. She hasn't seen any of them in person yet. She's asked us in an email if we need a manager! HAHAHAHA

Better get back to the sponge and mop. Break's over!

Janet
