Hi Everyone - I haven't posted to this forum yet but have been a DG member for about a year now. I live in Virginia and stick with the Mid-Atlantic Gardening board for the most part. Things are kind of quiet over there, so I thought that I would go scouting a bit.
This Friday my husband and I will be leaving for a week in Atlantic City, NJ. We own a timeshare so we exchanged it for this week in Atlantic City. I have been to AC twice but during warm weather. I am wondering if anyone who might read this and lives nearby or someone who has spent some time there will tell me of things to do and see.
Of course there is the gambling. We are not big gamblers by any means and would most likely bore with that if done daily. One thing that I am hoping to do is to ride over in to New York City one of the days. Certainly not New Years Eve though. ha-ha. That would be way too much for me to handle. Come to think of it, if anyone knows New York City well enough to send me in any particular direction. What to do when spending just the day? I have also been to NYC several times but never had a walking tour. I do know that I will want to take the boat tour that is done there. The one that takes you around Manhatten Island. I wouldn't think that they close it during the winter. I can check that out online.
Other than the boat tour, any suggestions? I am very appreciative of any feedback. Thanks folks.
Hi Ruby, You be careful those slot machineís are addictive. Iíve been to AC several times in the winter but only for a couple of days. We arenít big gamblers either, I just set a small limit and when I run out Iím done. We saw a few shows when we were there. Philadelphia isnít to far away either you might be interested in seeing Phila instead of NY or both. You know my husband and I go to just get away from everyone. Just the two of us if you get my drift. So we arenít that interested in a lot of site seeing. LOL ;} Holly
I can't say I'm a veteran of NYC at all, but if I had a little time there I'd spend at least some of it up in Central Park. Something for everyone there, and several fine museums right next door as well if the weather turns sour.
Have a good time -- hope it's sunny while you're out and about.
Yep Holly, I get your gist. Some of our time is for "alone" time too. Our home often seems like a zoo, so some quiet with no interuptions will be nice. I hadn't thought of going in to Philly, but that is a thought. Will see which hubby prefers.
Thanks for the tip Vib. I will research Central Park and see what I can find to interest us. During one of my trips there I stayed at a hotel right on one of the entrances to Central Park. It was interesting to see the horse drawn carraiges picking up and dropping off their fare. That ride is a thought.
Ruby, Have a really good time you can tell us all about it when you get back. Yea, Iíd say a Zoo is a pretty good description of my house too. It has settled down some in the last few years but itís still pretty busy. I have 4 grown children, a grandson and another on the way. I love that they are all live close and they are in and out of the house all the time. About the only way Ric and I can get any time alone is to go away. We do a lot of traveling with friends and family. So we try to take one or two short trips alone. Last year we went to Williamsburg for several days over New Years and a trip for 2 nights to AC. Itís a really nice break sometimes you just need to be alone no interruptions or distractions just the two of you together. Enjoy yourselves Holly
Hello - We are here and it has been a good trip so far. On Saturday we visited my niece who lives a couple of towns over. That was very nice. Her new home is very nice and her ten month old son is a real cutie. We visited on Saturday because that was her only day off from work while we are here. She will be visiting my place at the end of January because she is coming to my older son's wedding on the 27th of Jan.
Yesterday afternoon we vsited a couple of the casino's. The fist one was so crowded that I became claustrophobic and had to go to a less crowded spot. I lost in the $20 range which isn't too terribly bad. We only do the slots. I wouldn't know where to start with the other games because I have never learned them. Suits me fine. I have an addictive personality and don't need something else that I need to deal with. ha-ha.
My sleep habits have been off for many months. If I get 4 or 5 hours of sleep, I have done well. After the casinos and eating an early dinner, hubby and I came in and napped. We woke up about 11:30 PM and have been up and already drank a pot of coffee. I will go back to sleep in a bit if I become tired. I guess that sleep schedules here and NYC are moot, there are things to do 24 hours a day.
It is supposed to rain today so anything that requires walking will be out. It was so cold walking back to hotel from casinos that I had to go in to one of the shops and pay $4 for a stocking cap. Oh well.
Okay, here is a biggie question for you all. When I woke up at 11:30 I was sitting on the bed and saw what I think was a roach crawl across the bed. Yuck!!!! I freaked for a minute. I haven't seen any more evidence of any, but I am sure they are good hiders. This hotel is under renovation and hubby says that is probably what stirred them up. We are now concerned about taking them home in our luggage. Is there any way to prevent this? John suggested donating everything that we brought here to goodwill before we leave. No way, my blue jeans fit very well and I am afraid I won't find any that fit as well. ha-ha Any suggestions on where to search for the answer to this question? Thanks folks. I will find the infor that I need somewhere before I leave.
Other than the roach and getting lost of free way a time or two, the trip has been good. Happy New Year All.
