I lucked out - my daughters boyfriend has been giving me several large garbage bags of wood shavings every time they visit! This stuff is great mulch. He is a carpenter and works in a cabinet shop, where they make custom kitchen cabinets and wine racks and built in bookcases and stuff like that. They do high end stuff so much of the wood shavings are cherry, oak, etc. and it is crumbled up really fine. Apparently they have a vaccuum attached to the table saw that gathers up all the wood shavings when the raw wood is being cut to size, so nobody has to gather it up, and it is collected in very large clear plastic bags. I have mulched flower beds, used it for bedding for the animals, and worked it into my strawberry boxes, etc.

I bet if you contacted any cabinet shops in your area they would be glad to give it to you free just to get rid of it.
