I have a Samsung HL-S6187W which I purchased from Best Buy 7 months ago on 5/27/2006. A few weeks ago I started seeing the side of the picture screen darking from the right side to the left side. You can still see the picture through the darken area, but it is now getting bigger and starting to cover more of the screen. It is now covering about 6" from the right side of the screen on the top, and covering about 5 1/2 " from the right side of the screen on the bottom. For some reason it is not even.
I did not buy the extended warrenty from Best Buy. I am in the process of contacting Samsung as I know I have a parts warrenty for 1 year.

Would anyone know what this problem is, as this HDTV is a DLP?

I wish I could tell you what the problem is but I dont even know anything about our 62 inch Sony. We bought ours at Sam's Club and did purchase the warranty. But, have you tried calling Best Buy and seeing if there is anything you can do about it? I know they can be a pain(oh boy do I know) but seeing as how you still have the manufacture warranty and if you still have the receipt they might still work with you on resolving this. It never hurts to try especially if you mention the fact of how new the product still is. You might want to actually go to the store and talk with someone there to discuss this, alot of times over the phone you will only get someone who goes by the book without having any knowledge of the product. It cant hurt to try especially since I know how much these things cost.

Thanks for your reply. I tried going to Best Buy today, and they told me to call Samsung. A lot of help there, right. I should have known, they never want to help you after they make the sale.

I generally won't stick up for places like Best Buy, but to be fair, you are outside the 30 day or so window of time where you could return a defective purchase, and the 1 year warranty you have is from Samsung not from Best Buy, so even if they wanted to help you (which admittedly they probably didn't!), there's really nothing they could do at this point besides tell you to contact Samsung.

Hopefully Samsung will give you no troubles with the warranty and no special conditions in order for you to use the warranty. Sorry that Best Buy wouldnt help but its always worth a shot just in case.
Let us know how this works out for you.

Hi Satman,

I got a Hitachi 42 in plasma a few months ago and when i was looking into buying I came accross this website that helped me quite a bit. They had product reviews for the set I was looking at buying. Seems like there are some pretty knowledgable people on the forum there. Post your problem under the plasma flat panel display forum and see if you get a response. Someone might have already asked about it if it is a problem that is prevalent in those models. There are many threads and I did see some that were about Samsung's. Good luck and I hope this helps!

My friend's father has a TV repair shop and he complains that the only thing he can do to fix the new DLPs is to replace the entire main circuit board. The manufacturer does not make parts that can be easily fixed. If it's under warranty, get Sumsung to fix it. Once the warranty has expired, it costs about the same to replace the board as to buy a whole new TV.
