It's a question, not a statement. Ha ha! I hadn't gardened in a while and moved into a newly constructed home with new soil (I use that term loosely), and am getting back into it. I got poppy seedlings last year from Bluestone. Papaver nudicaule, I believe it was. They arrived in late May looking fine and I planted them promptly. They died within a week.
I hear all kinds of conflicting information from gardening friends and family. One told me poppies don't transplant well. One told me I had the wrong kind for my area, although she couldn't remember what the right kind was. Someone else told me my timing was off.
When I look in PF, there are all kinds of species with all kinds of info about each one. What I'd like to know is how does one find out what the best ones are for this particular area, and whether or not they should be transplanted or sown. I'd like to have success this year.
Also, if we had some kind of key to equate species with common reference, that might be helpful. I mean like nudicaule = Icelandic, or something like that. I can figure out that orientale = Oriental. Ha ha!
Okay, who wants to tackle this one!!?? Thank you in advance.
Edited for numerous misspellings.
