Last summer I visited a wonderful Asian Garden with the garden club group I belong to & the home owners used alot of split wood & large branches to line their garden paths & raised beds, this pic is a little dark but it is the only one I have from their garden that shows wood branches being used to line paths, many of the paths were lined by 'split wood' - like you'd get from a firewood seller & if you rent a splitter you can do your own split wood for paths and/or raised beds.
