I'll need your mailing address, just e-mail it to me.
When it arrives take out as many seeds as you like, but replace them with a equal amount of seeds. I will start with 15 seeds, please replace with packets of different seeds, we want every one to get a variety. If you have a bunch of one kind of seeds, you can add extra seeds if you like but no more than 3 pleaseÖ and donít count those extras as replacements for RR seeds. We also will be tossing in a Spring themed goodie, take one and replace it with one you've brought/got for this purpose... something light (see my first post for some ideas). In the box will be the next person's address, reseal the box very good and send it to that person Priority w/delivery confirmation (so we can track it). Any questions?
You can include annuals, perennials, vegtables... you can pack up little baggies of your seeds you've collected from last years garden or if you've bought packets of seeds for this years growing season and it contains more than you'll use you can pack up them... or if you're like me you can add store bought packet that I've changed my mind about planting! I just buy everything in sight then realize that I could never plant them all!
A few people are new to Robins and I want to help answer any questions. There is no stupid questions :)
I'm going to start the Robin with 15 packages of 15 different kinds of seeds. All you will need to do is to put in one packet of seeds for each packet you take out. If you take out 3 packets you put in 3 different seeds in 3 packets labeled with what they are and,if you like, any info you'd like to say about it ("Pretty flower, needs staking!"). You'll see it's not hard.
As for how many seeds per packet, well as a rule of thumb I put in as much as I'd plant if I was putting it in my garden... say it's something that takes up a bunch of room/grows big (like Sunflowers) I'd only put 8-10... if it was tiny seeds (like poppy) I put about 1/2 tsp if it's pretty prolific/not rare and 1/4 tsp if it don't set seeds well or is uncommon/hard to get...
I hope this helps, please let me know if there's anything else :)
Try to put in special things... something new unusual or different if you can... if you can't, it's ok... as you garden a while you'll get more and more unusual things and maybe next time you'll have something special to add.
What about "theme" packets? Is that allowed? For instance, I have 5 kinds of tomatoes I'm growing this year (Bloody Butcher, Tigerella, Sugary, Brandywine, and Sungella). I would include 3 seeds of each variety (separated and labeled, of course), for a total of 15 seeds for the packet. I'm also growing 4 kinds of cukes, 3 kinds of pansies, about 8 kinds of morning glories, etc. Tamara

OMG Much to my suprise my hubby had brought a package in yesterday and it was anxiously awaiting my arrival home from work this morning. I had totally forgot about this RR, I didnt mark it to watch so it was a great suprise to me. I will go through it when I get up. But right now it is beddy by time. Had long 24hr shift. So will be back with you all this evening.
This is a great time of the year to do this RR. I have never done one either but it is giving me something to look forward to in the mail.
Ladygardener : Where is Albion, Pa? I am near DuBois, 60 miles south of Bradford on Rt 219.
I am interested in perennials and vegetable seeds but have gotten some interesting seeds in trades that I grew and liked.
Hi Aline, Albion is up near Lake Erie, close to the Ohio line. I have been to Bradford quite a few times when my daughter was in Marching Band in highschool. That was always a cold place on the fall evening. Bradford was the Marching Owls and we are the Wildcats.
I think zone5girl lives closer to me as the crow flies.
Everyone I am so sorry we were so busy at work yesterday that I couldnt get to the PO until 4pm I found out that they closed at 2pm. You all are going to think that I am so bad. But It will be my priority Monday.
Ok! So the earliest I can hope for is Thursday, If I get it by Friday I'll be able to mail it out Saturday AM. Any later arrival then Friday; that would mean a Tuesday Or Wednesday mail day for me. Can't get to PO Monday, Thursday's or Fridays.
Maineroses, I'll post when it arrives.
Now if the package was going to zone5girl next . I'd be in Mentor on Wednesday and we could do a handoff. LOL
Tamara, I make regular trips to Ireland Cancer Center. I am a one year breast cancer survivor. I have been making trips up your way every 3 weeks since the end of Dec 2005.
But in the spring I have been going to BlueStone Perennials in Madison for the last 7 years or so, missed last spring though since I was in no shape to take on any new garden plants. I'm hopeing to have all my strength back by this spring. : )
Congrats on the survival. Stay well.
I wish I could go to Bluestone and have considered it. I am at the 100 mile marker on I 80 in Pa. The three of us are pretty close considering the vastness of Dave's and the fact that we were pulled from a bag by crimson.LOL
Send me some perennial seed from plants you bought at Bluestone!!! I have purchased quite a few plants from them.
Paula and cheermom; do you have any preferences? I can think about what I'll be packing.
Aline, BlueStone is a great place to visit, the folks there are very nice and very helpfull. It's nothing fancy but loaded with plants. I was checking out one time, I was buying a baby shrub, can't remember if it was Daphine, Carol Mackie but the cashier said let me find you a better one so off we went. I am very happy with her choice.
Here is a picture, it bloomed twice for me last year, this is the fall blooms.
The Robin has roosted!!!! Thanks for the Love in the Mist seeds and I also will try my hand with the Sea Holly Eryngium Alpinun Blue Lace. The Little Brown Bird will look cute sitting by the waterfall, looks like he is getting a drink.
We also have a disaster, the little blue flower ball was broken, I left it in the box in case someone might want to glue it back together. I added a few extra goodies to make up for the loss. And some bubble wrap, please pass the bubble wrap along if you choose the item it is wrapped in, in case someone may need it down the line.
I will ask my DH to go to the post office for me tomarrow am. So zone5girl get ready!!!!!!
Robin...The Confirmation # is...0306-0320-0003-6701-9318 Mail out 2-8-07 at 11:00 am
Tamara, Don't wrap it. You get to choose what you want to keep. I think it is fun to hear what every one picks. Never been to BlueStone, even for the sale in June? WOW Should we set up a meet for a Wednesday or a weekend. I'll be on vacation the First 2 weekends in June but sometimes I go 2X to BS.
All this talk about Bluestone weakened my resolve to NOT go to their website. I knew if I did, I would end up ordering, and, of course, I did. At least I didn't go crazy. I got some Lonicera japonica 'Purpurea', 'Kleim's Hardy' gardenia (it's hardy to zone 7, and I'm 5b/6a, so with some winter protection, it should be fine), and Continus coggygria 'Young Lady'. I am totally psyched! Honeysuckle, gardenia, and smokebush have all my on my wish list for a while, and now I'm getting them! woo hoo! Now I just have to find a place for them... Tamara
Tamara, When I buy shrubs from BlueStone it grow them in bigger nursery pots for a year or two before putting them out in the yard. I have a spot near my deck stairs that I call my "nursery" I pass by it every day so I can see how they are doing. That also gives me time to select a place for them in the yard. And gives them time to get bigger so they don't get lost amoung the big boys.
Did you take a peek at their Clematis? Now that's a tease! ; )
yes, I did...but I managed to restrain myself...I already have about 7 vines that have spoken for the space I have available. Someday, when we get a house with a decent amount of land, I have several clematis on my wish list that I will make a home for. :-) Tamara
box arrived today there was something broken to several peices beyond repairing...
I will leave it in if you want me to but it is weighting the box down -let me know what to do i will post when i send out Robin
I took out the broken i think was some type of ball,it was in tons of peices,I replaced the small garden stake-with plant stake fert.and also took out the paper-and replaced with springtime-iron on decals.
Also the was not alot to pick from in the box -one was not even marked so i opened to see if maybe it was sent in the yellow envelope-and it was seeds in there-since i didnt know what it was i taped it up-Put a question mark on front of envelope.I added alot more seeds -to replace what was lacking.

maineroses, I figured the garden stake would go fast, just might have to go back to the store and get myself one. The ball was broken when I got the package just did not have the heart to toss it, wonder if more damage was done on the last flight? Looked like the postman sat on the box when it arrived at my door. lol
There was 15 packs of seeds when I got the box I replaced 2 that I wanted to keep and added a few extra. There must be a lot more to choose from now!
Crimson...I'd be up for another flight if it doesn't take too long to get to you.
Zone5girl, hope it makes it through the snow storm, how are things your way? Glad I don't have to go to Mentor tomarrow.
Snow i hear is headed here-though i dont like the snow-I have to clean my hairdresser's shop tommorrow and pray -We get the snow-I came down with a bug with family here all weekend and i sure would like to stay home,,,I think i doubled all the seeds-i really didnt count them, but i was involved in a couple RR -so i did have alot of seeds left over.Robin
Tamara, How are you doing with all the snow we had? Some deliveries were held up because of the storm. The mounds of plowed snow is making it difficult to pull out onto main roads when driving, you have to sneak out and pray you don't get hit.
tamara-i was not sure what was in that package -it had no name was in RR when i got so I am one who put ??? on it,Im glad it arrived i heard from a few people packages are slow i sent one priorty took 1 week.what is up with that?Robin
It doesn't. It just says "foxglove". It's a cool seed packet that the person printed off the computer and it says, "No woman should plant more garden than her husband can hoe" On the back it says "See you at davesgarden.com"
Tamara, Those are the foxglove seeds I put in, they are mixed colors but I prefer the purple shades so I'm sure the majority of the seeds are purple. They will make plants the first year and then bloom the 2nd year. Might want to sow some seed this spring and then wait till next season to sow the rest, that way you will get blooms every year after that.
The RR took two days to get to me! I will send it out tomarrow.
Thanks for the seeds Tamara.
Hey Maineroses. I saw your trade list that you posted and there were several things that I was interested in but decided to wait and I got some seeds you put in the RR. Clara Curtis and the pumpkin.Too funny.
Thanks Crimson for doing this. It's been fun. I added a few gifts I had hanging around here and took the journal.
I am so glad you got the seeds-alinehuey,The seeds-where from a trade I hope they do well for you-I plan on trying the clara cutis this year in the garden-I would grow pumpkins if i had more land-I am going to do tomatoes -different ones-peppers cucumbers, garlic, basic's...
It's on it's way to you Paula!
confirmation #0304 3490 0001 1439 3152
I told the PO what a good job they are doing.
It's in a new box and being sent priority because the cost was less than $5 to ship. (It was in a set priced box)
I took 12 packs of seeds for myself, added 12 I got from trades that I didn't think would grow well here (warmer zones) and added12, I collected from my gardens this year.
Hi, I received the robin yesterday - didn't know it was coming but very pleased!
I'll go through it today and post tomorrow confirmation number when it's sent on to babsadventure. Thanks for hosting, Crimson!
The Robin has arrived --YIPEE!! I'm on my way to work and I just checked the mailbox and there it was. So tomorrow morning when I get a chance I'll open it and try to send it off again. Its a great sunny day here and the temp must be at least 30 degrees because some of the snow is melting. Its a greater day cause the Robin has arrived. I hope work goes fast tonite. ...b

The robin is home! Thank you everyone for your speedy turn arounds, this robin went great and I hope everyone found something they liked! I'm going to do a little refreshing and I'll post when it's ready to fly again!
If I may ask, what suggestions would everyone have to make it even better this time around? Also, what seeds did everyone take? I love to hear what everyone is growing! I took foxglove, mystery seeds and cleome. I've wintersowed them, and I'm just waiting for them to germinate. Tamara
Great idea Tamara.I took seeds of cleome white spider plant, sensitive plant (never had this before so I hope its easy enough for me lol ),radish, basil, aster, cupids dart, and Red Hollyhock. I have always wanted red hollyhock and was really excited to see some in the box. I sowed everything yesterday so now I will be hovering around them until I see sprouts : )
