I have a fairly new Sears dishwasher (less than a year old) and I was using liquid gel soap but some times there would be soap left behind running out of the dispenser. So, I found these handy dandy little tabs at Costco that already have the jet dry in the middle of them and at first they worked really well. Always dissolved and the dishes were clean. Now all of a sudden they aren't dissolving and I don't know if this is due to the door not opening at the correct time when it's washing or if it's the soap. I have never had any trouble with dishes getting clean in this, even when the soap doesn't dissolve. :) All the same though if I'm going to use soap I'd at least like to have it work. This whole soap issue of it not dissolving is not constant by any means but annoying.
I had the same problem as well as other issues with a dish washer several years ago. I complained to the technition, and he said that I needed to make sure to run the water in the sink until it was hot before I turned on the dishwasher.
I was pretty unsure, but it does seem to work. Now, I just hand wash whatever needs to be done first, then run the load. I also stopped using those tabs, as it just seemed that they were too dense to always dissolve.
Well, dumb dumb me, solved it. :) It dawned on me when it wasn't working was when I was washing a large sheet pan, which was blocking the soap dispenser door from opening.
